A Year Without A Santa Claus

Pam Case

We sent our wish list to Santa, but the items we need are just not things he can give. Friends, we are asking you to help, if only just a bit.

You see, the holidays are a busy time for Homeward Bound. People give us pugs they can't be bothered with because they have to go out of town, or grandma is coming to visit. Adoptions slow to a crawl because people are understandably busy. Fosters go out of town for a much deserved break, leaving us frantically searching for temporary fosters. For these reasons we ask for your kind help.

HBPR Wish List:

1. Foster homes, even temporary ones through the holidays.
2. Monetary donations. Yes, I know it seems as if we ask a lot, but it is because we need it so badly to care for the pugs with special needs.
3. Gift cards to grocery stores- you would not BELIEVE the amount of laundry we do- even more than a college student home for the weekend. And don't get me started on the bottles of Pine-Sol we use on the floors!
4. Bags of Taste of the Wild dog food. The fosters who have several dogs can go through a 30 lb bag in one week!

If you would like to help Santa you can donate dog beds, towels, toys, detergent or blankets and either drop them off at A1 Pet Emporium or email Gail Tucker.

We are graciously accepting donations through ChipIn, PayPal at homewardboundpugs@cox.net
or you can send a check made out to Homeward Bound Pug Rescue to Gail Tucker, 1702 Vanessa Drive, Norman, OK 73071

Already your kind donations have helped.
Thanks to you we have raised enough for Buddy to have surgery on one knee! This is a great start and he is on his way to a new, pain free life in a forever home.

Greetings Dear Friends,

The holidays are a special time of year. Sometimes we can get caught up in the material part of it and forget what is really important. Gifts are nice, but gathering around a dinner table or warm fire with family and friends is what it is all about. During the holidays we can look back on the year and recall the love that surrounds us every day, though we may have been too busy to recognize or appreciate it at the time. Put down the catalogs and computer, walk out of the big box store filled with frantic people

who are trying to save a few bucks on something they don't really need. I mean really, wouldn't you rather have pepper on your mashed potatoes instead of your face?

Sit back, relax, reflect and show others that you care. Invite your parents to dinner. Tell your spouse how much you appreciate them. Ask your children what is going on in their lives, and then listen to what they have to say. Really listen. Call someone you haven't spoken to in a while. Take your dog for a long walk or a car ride to his favorite place. That, to me, is what the holidays are about. Though I won't turn away that box of chocolates or heated throw blanket!

Have a safe and merry holiday season.

- Your friends at Homeward Bound

Happy Tails

Osker de Meyer,

Pam Case
or "Oscie" was adopted into our human family of two in Milwaukee, WI on 7/30/2010. At first he was the most timid, shy, untrusting pug we had ever encountered (having grown up in a pug-loving family). However, after weeks of constant belly rubs, plentiful organic dog food, and more toys than he can remember, Oscie has learned to trust and love us. He sleeps in bed with us, goes to the coffee shop with us, attends family functions, and is our adorable, loving
shadow. We are not certain whether we adopted Oscie or he adopted us! Last year Oscie was a star in the holiday parade with other pug rescues.

Oggie (aka Mackie)

Pam Case

Our sweet boy, "Oggie" (aka: Mackie), has been with us since August. He's warmed his way into our hearts and we love him dearly. His fur brothers, Omni and Friar, the Shih Tzus are beginning to accept him and they will even let him snuggle up with them on occasion.  He has the cutest personality, loves to play with his stuffed babies is my constant companion!

Thank you so much for rescuing this little sweetheart so we could be blessed with adopting him!

Winston (FKA Porkchop)

Winston has been in our Happy Tails section before, but we just can't get enough of him. Here is a "pup date" from his mommy:

Pam Case

I've been adopted! Hooray! I'm a city boy now - I live in Chicago with my mom and little pug sister, Zoe. At first I was scared of everything, but I soon realized my bad life was over and that the good life for me was just beginning.

I am the man of the house and a snuggler at heart. I'm always laying with my mom and sister - what can I say Zoe makes a good pillow. I've meet lots of new friends and am quite a ladies man around the neighborhood. When I first came home, I was showing signs of weakness in my back legs and my mom registered me for warm water therapy. I love the water! The trainers say I'm the best pug swimmer they've ever seen. I've gotten stronger and love going for long walks and even run out the door with excitement. I love my new life!

*If you have a happy tail you would like to share, please email me your story and photos. We love to hear how your pugs are doing!
