To Gobble Or Not To Gobble...

How many of you set a place at the table (or under the table) for your furry friend? It's okay to give your pug a special holiday meal as long as it is safe and healthy for them. Also, you know how pugs can pack on the pounds, so make sure to keep the portions small.
Meats Turkey is fine, just in small portions and take off the skin.
Ham- no way, too much salt!
Bones Absolutely NO bones! They are a choking hazard and can cause intestinal blockage or perforation if swallowed.
Veggies Pumpkin is good for the digestive system in small quantities, but be sure it is pure pumpkin, not the ready to bake kind.
Unsalted green beans, peas and cooked carrots are good as well.
Broccoli can cause digestive upset. Besides, dad and grandpa will pass enough gas to clear the room- you don't need your pug adding to the aroma!
Garlic and onions are extremely toxic, so keep these foods out of reach.
Dessert Sugar, chocolate and candies are just not good for dogs. Some candy contains xylitol, which can be deadly, even in small amounts
If you want to give him something sweet, stick with treats made specifically for dogs. ice cream tastes great and several pet stores offer a treat bar so you can select a variety of yummies for your pug.
Fruit Apples are fine, but make sure the seeds are removed as these can be toxic. Pears are yummy too.
Avacado, grapes and raisins are toxic so keep those out of his food bowl.
Salty/spicy foods Don't feed your pets anything salted or spicy as it can cause dehydration, kidney problems and pancreatitis.
Also, remember to keep an eye on your friends and family since we know that kids love to feed their unwanted food to Fido and adults take one look at those cute, wrinkly pug faces and can't help but give them a bite of their snack!
Have a happy, safe and indigestion free holiday!
