Letter From The Director
How did it get to be just two months from Puggerfest? Our theme this year is Mardi Gras Madness. We will have a special costume contest for best Mardi Gras costume, along with our regular categories. Once again we have a block of rooms for our out of town guests under Homeward Bound at the La Quinta Inn airport location, OKC. Please make reservations through the front desk, not central reservations. This will assure you the room price of around $59. Also request courtyard rooms to ensure you are close to where we gather to chat and let the pugs play.
As you can imagine, I am stressing to the max to be sure we have silent auction items, sponsorships and enough people to help. We especially need volunteers to help set up and break down the event. Other people usually have the pavilion reserved after us, so we need to pack up quickly. Please let me know if you can help and/or attend planning meetings. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and our vet bills are beyond belief, so I am hoping for the best turnout ever. If you would like to send something for the silent auction please mail to Gail Tucker, 1702 Vanessa Drive, Norman OK 73071
If you know of a company that you think will sponsor an event such as the pug races or costume contests for $50 $100 or $200 let me know. We will graciously accept individual sponsorships also.
Tune in next month for all the details, tee shirt design and schedules.
Thank you all for your support. We couldn't do it without you!

Lucy, Dusty and Yogi

I have 2 puggies (the one on the left is Lucy who I am babysitting for a friend) - Dusty, almost 8 yrs old, was also a rescue and "surrogate mommy" to Yogi, 5 yrs, who we adopted from Homeward Bound 4 yrs ago. Yogi was very rough looking and scared to death of people when we got him. It took almost 6 months for us to be able to love on him. He is now a very handsome, totally spoiled little boy - he sleeps with us and doesn't like for us to be out of his sight. If we take Dusty to the vet and he has to stay home he justs cries at the top of his lungs! So funny! He is such a treasure! If we weren't 4 hours away from OKC, I'd have a houseful of rescues!

Dexter 5-18-2001 to 6-20-2011

My sweet Dexter came to me at 5 months old as a giveaway. My intention was to put him in Homeward Bound pug rescue, but he quickly won our family over with his puppy cuteness and his beauty! When we got him, Dexter's back leg had been run over and he was just off surgery for internal injuries, but appeared to heal nicely. We later learned he had hip displasia and an inoperable knee injury that he would need lifelong pain meds for. He also soon started having seizures. Shortly after his second birthday, he became very sick. An emergency visit to our vet revealed that his pancreas had ruptured! After emergency surgery, we learned that he had practically no chance of survival! We decided to do whatever possible to save him. After four weeks of prayers and twice a day multiple antibiotic injections, Dexter turned the corner and never looked back! He was our miracle boy! Dexter had made it through so many health problems, but on June 20, he had a cough. Within a couple of hours, he had been to the vet for antibiotic shots. My husband brought him home, then left for about an hour. When he returned, my beautiful boy had jumped on the couch and died. My beautiful boy was gone at the age of 10! Dexter was the last of my four pugs. My precious Dexter, I love you so much and will miss you always. Dexter was born May 18, 2001 and passed June 20, 2011.

Puppy Galore!
It's a boy! It's a girl! It's a girl! It's a girl! It's a boy! Well, you get the idea. We have two proud mamas and some of the cutest puppies we have ever seen. The puppies are about 5 weeks old now, so not ready for adoption, but they are ready to be fawned over (get it, "fawned"). Take a peek at the new additions to the Homeward Bound family!

Sassy and her puppies: They may be 1/2 shih tzu, but they are 100% adorable!
We will keep you posted on their progress and let you know when they are ready for adoption. |
