VOLUNTEERS ALWAYS NEEDED
There is always work to be done at camp.  While many of the staff are hired for the entire season, volunteers fill unique and special needs.  Consider spending a day or a week at camp this summer sharing your talents.  Being a counselor, helping in the kitchen, working with the maintenance staff, answering phones, helping the nurse and so much more can be done by those who volunteer.  Offer your special qualifications to enhance the life of the camp.

Volunteers must adhere to the same qualifications as a paid employee and accept the same responsibility.  If you have ever been a camper or if you know someone who was a camper, you know first hand how a life is embellished through the experience found here.

Volunteering not only lifts up  the lives to whom  you minister, but your life is lifted as well.

CHURCH VISITS

The Promotions Committee under the very capable leadership of Chair Bill Backhaus has been conducting church visits to spread the work of Covenant Hills.

Many UMC and UCC churches have accepted visits from members of this committee.  This is a great way to present information, answer questions and pass along information about camp.

If you are interested in helping with the process of spreading the good news of camp, drop Bill an email to Bill Backhaus and he will be happy have you as part of his team.  OR if your church would like to have someone present an overview of our camping program, email Bill and he can make it happen.

This is a very important time in the life of our camp so everyone is encouraged to share their talents and energy.

The Vermont District of the United Methodist Church held their pre- Annual Conference meeting at Covenant Hills recently.  About 100 clergy and laity from Vermont churches spent the day  at camp on May 19th.  Many had never been to the camp before and the day was glorious.  There were folks from all over Vermont and after a meeting in Faith Lodge, worship in Taylor's Barn and lunch on the lawn,  everyone spent some time helping out by cleaning cabins, raking up debris, planting flowers and helping with some of the chores needed as camp opens for the season.  Having actually seen the camp, many went home with more of an idea about the camping program that is offered.

Churches big and small are encouraged to think about using the space available at Covenant Hills for a retreat or day away and get a chance to see the beautiful setting that is the site of our outdoor ministry.

Thanks to Brigod Farrell, UMC District Superintendent for bringing this information to us.

"ALL ARE WELCOME"

Covenant Hills Christian Camp
2012

Here is another view of the camp before we all arrived.  What a beautiful place we have in God's Kingdom to call our home.  This awesome place is even more beautiful today because it is filled with wonderful buildings, loving care and the love we have for each other.  Campfires, singing and laughter along with all of the imaginable joys fill a short time together that will remain for a lifetime.

"All Are Welcome" is a song written in 1989 by Marty Haugen of Eagan, Minnesota, a composer of Protestant and Catholic liturgical music.  "Jesus ate with the Pharisees, tax collectors and sinners," said Haugen. "I don't remember him refusing anyone, and that was the spirit in which I wrote this song."  Some of the verses and chorus sound like it was written about Covenant Hills Christian Camp:

Let us build a house

where love can dwell

And all can safely live,

A place where

saints and children tell

How hearts learn to forgive.

Built of tears and cries and laughter,

Prayers of faith and songs of grace.

Let this house proclaim from floor to rafter:

All are welcome!  All are welcome!

All are welcome in this place.

Be sure to keep in mind that the camp site is available for Saturday events during the regular camping season resulting from the weekly schedule change (most camps will operate from Sunday to Friday).  If you know of a church or group that would benefit from this new availability, have them contact the Executive Director, Kelley Alderman at:

secrets of the kingdom

Storytelling is as ancient as human communication. From writing on the walls of caves to oral tradition to written words to campfires and dinner tables ~ stories are how we pass on the meaning and beauty of our history. Stories make us laugh or cry. They make us more aware. They help us understand. They illuminate any shadowy spots in our lives. Jesus used stories to teach his disciples ~ and us ~ about what it means to live in his kingdom. The stories are called parables.  This summer, by use of our curriculum, Secrets of the Kingdom, campers will look to the Master Storyteller, Jesus himself, to discover six different parables and their meanings for our lives today.
