 A CROWN IN ONE VISIT - CAD/CAM DENTISTRY
Whenever I consider adding new technology for my patients there are four areas that I look at. They are -- is it better, is it faster, is it easier and is it cost effective. In my eyes this great new technology does not meet those criteria.
Is it better? Not really. To begin with to match the tooth shades on anterior crowns the ceramist needs to make a considerable amount of custom coloring. For a posterior crown if the crown is only milled but not polished and detailed in contours and anatomy and not glazed in an oven, it is not superior to one of our custom crowns. In fact, I have removed a number of these restorations for poor contours, open contacts and flat occlusion. The outstanding crowns I have seen with this new process the treating dentist has a full time ceramist in his office to ensure the crowns are esthetically and clinically perfect. continue reading
