Greetings!

October finds us rather busy around the PCATT offices. Our printed schedule to which many of you subscribe and receive in the mail is available. A current and up-to-date listing is also available to view on our website. We have fielded many inquiries and registration requests for these courses. If you see a course that interests you, set to registering early. Our staff is glad to answer any of your questions.

In addition, the first UHCC Renewable Energy Training Summit concluded at the end of the month and was a sell-out of 150+ attendees from around the state. The 2-day summit brought together guest speakers, industry experts, as well as individuals seeking new training to enter into the renewable energy industry. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to its success.

Sincerely,

2012: Prepare For The Top Strategic Technologies

With 2011 quickly drawing to a close, many online tech sites and blogs are forecasting their "Tops" for 2012. In an article written by Mark Cox of eChannelLine Daily News, the top 10 strategic technologies are discussed in reference to their effects on IT departments, as well as the effects that businesses can expect to see in the coming year. It seems that Cloud Computing, and In-Memory Computing will generate much of the anticipated technology growth.

Cloud Computing will allow for greater mobile accessibility to apps and data, resulting in more media tablets and mobile devices finding their way into businesses and offices. While this trend may help to improve productivity, it can wreak havoc for the folks in IT. Currently, there is no "standard" mobile platform, thus resulting in applications and programs that need to be able to run on virtually...anything.

Following this insight, in-Memory Computing will help to grow cloud-based services and apps. In-Memory Computing will contribute to "low energy servers" that can handle large amounts of data for either computing or storage purposes.  With the lowering costs, and increase in availability of flash memory, large storage technologies that feature in-Memory computing capabilities are quickly finding their way into the inner-workings of business IT departments.

The bottom line is that we can expect to see the rise of mobile computing, applications, and systems carry over through the next few years. Having said that, the Internet will serve as the as the vessel to bring new services to market to expedite new processes that make our professional and personal lives easier and quicker. Skills such as software development, project management, systems analysis, and a wide array of network-related talents will be highly sought after.

The Pacific Center for Advanced Technology Training looks to service the need for these skills with new course offerings.

Scary Technologies Of The Future
Boo!
Happy Halloween from the folks at PCATT!

October is typically the time of year where people start to see changes in their natural environment. The air gets a bit cooler, the sun starts to show at different, lower angles in the sky, and the days grow shorter. The Fall season is upon us and Halloween signifies the beginning of our transition towards Winter. As western culture dictates, we celebrate Halloween with a traditional saying, "trick or treat". While keeping with that theme, here is an article written by Chris Pollette, Tech Editor of HowStuffWorks.com that demonstrates some interesting, and "scary" technologies of the future.

 A Tribute To A Visionary
On October 5, we said goodbye to one of America's greatest innovators, Steve Jobs.  He will be greatly missed as we read the condolences from friends and colleagues. This article by Thomas Claburn of InformationWeek, shows us what Steve had introduced to us over the years.
With the passing of a technology titan, we keep in mind that technology is a contribution made by those who spend a great deal of their time and life trying to make processes simpler and trying to improve the way we do things. A special thanks and praise goes out to those in the technology industry who have moved us by leaps and bounds with creativity, hard work, and perserverance. PCATT will continue to develop the skills and training you need to continue the mission of  such revolutionary individuals.
