September 2012

If you have been around the school this year you may begin to wonder if your eyes are playing tricks on you.  One minute you see someone leave the building and the next minute you see the same person go into the copy room.  It is worthy of a double take.  Rest assured your eyes are fine, what you are actually seeing is the Olivetti twins!  Megan Olivetti is in her second year teaching Literacy at TVCS in the middle school.  Paige Olivettiis new to TVCS this year teaching our 6th grade students.

After spending some time with these two identical twin sisters - the phrase Dynamic Duo comes to mind.  They are best friends and have a ton in common.  They both have two dogs, they both are avid runners, they both received full track scholarships at BSU, they both love to shop, they are both impulsive, both love teaching and both love being a twin.  Megan says "It is like having a best friend that will never judge you or abandon you.  We can be honest and know that feelings won't get hurt  and we always have each other's back."

A couple of things that distinguish these Doublemint twins from each other, Megan is left handed, Paige is right handed, Megan parts her hair on the left, Paige on the right,  Megan is slightly taller with a slighter bigger shoe size than Paige,  Paige is easy going and laid back, Megan is more feisty and outgoing , Paige is more traditional and Megan is more trendy.  While these things seem obvious to them, it is still hard to tell them apart.  But remember, if you can't figuring out who is who, they both answer to "Miss Olivetti"!

When asked what they like about teaching they both replied that they love being around kids and feel more comfortable relating to kids than adults.  They love to have fun and nurture their students and said they can totally relate to them.  They said they love it when they are teaching and they hear a student say "That is the coolest thing ever!" or "I hated English before your class!"  That is when they know they have hit the mark.

As for what they like about teaching at TVCS Megan said "I like that I have more control over the way things are taught - it is not "that's just the way we do it here".  I like going way outside of the box - it takes a lot of time preparing lessons but I am more invested because I believe in it and the kids are more invested too.  I like the freedom".  Paige said, "I like how well the teachers get along.  I feel supported and like Dr. England has our back.  It really is THE Village!  That is so corny but so true."

When students in Paige's class were asked what they liked about their teacher, Sophie said, "I love my teacher.  She can explain things really well so that it makes sense.  I love this school much better than my old school".  Savannah D said "She lets us be us and lets us do really fun stuff.  We do Economics in class and not just math - I really like that"!

When students in Megan's class were asked what they liked about their teacher, Cameron C. said, "She handles things really well and she doesn't yell at us".  Cameron K said, "She has a lot of ideas for hands-on things like going outside to do fun projects like playing human chess to teach strategy...". Kelly said, "She is just awesome - same as last year - She is the BEST!  She's the awesomest teacher I have ever had"!

We are glad to have both Miss Olivetti's at TVCS this year. It is clear that they bring a lot of creative, fun, hands-on learning to each of their classrooms.  After talking with them, It was obvious that they are passionate about what they are doing and who said learning can't be fun!

Community News

Did you know that we are beginning this year what we hope will be a long running tradition at TVCS?
Our Junior High students are going to the
McCall Outdoor Science School (a.k.a. MOSS camp)
at the end of October. In order for them to go though,
WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Please join us for the First Annual
TVCS Lap-A-Thonon

This Thursday September 27th at 5:00pm
on the school playground.

Each student in the school went home with a pledge sheet this week; please assist your child in getting pledges per lap to help earn money for our school!  This could be as small at $.50 or$1.00 per lap. Every little bit counts! This will become an annual fundraising tradition for our school to get all students to MOSS camp in years to come!

DRESS CODE CLARIFICATION
There has been some confusion over what sweatshirts and outer wear are dress code approved. The policy was written to allow for any sweatshirts, sweaters and jackets to be worn outside of the class-room while only solid color sweaters, sweatshirts and jackets can be worn inside the classrooms. We hope this helps.

If you have other questions about the dress code, you can view the policy HERE.
