Spotlight

Lacey Owings is one terrific 5th grade teacher - at least that is what her students say.  They also say she is "small, pretty, creative and very helpful".  When some of the 5th graders where asked what they liked best about their teacher Krissyana said, "She makes learning really fun - we get to play math games and other games."  Ashland said, "She gives us a lot of tips to make learning easier." Jacob said, "Sometimes when I get stuck in math she explains the whole process so I will understand." Aspen said, "I like that she's very helpful - she helps us in a nice way to understand."

So who is this great teacher?  When you look in the 5th grade classroom you may miss her at first glance as she is so petite she blends right in!  Upon closer inspection though, you can't miss her - she is the one who is full of calm energy and usually has a smile on her face.

Lacey is from Boise and is very family oriented.  She has been married for almost 5 years and has 2 dogs who she says are her children.  She loves to do things outside including walks on the greenbelt, have BBQ's and host outdoor movie nights in the summer.  What many people don't know about Lacey is that she was a BSU cheerleader! She said it was her athletic dream in college and that she was determined to make the team.  Even though it was quite a few years ago, she said those years were some of the best times of her life!

When asked about her teaching at TVCS, Lacey replied "These kids are my life right now. This job was very challenging at first to earn trust and respect from the kids, but the last couple of months we have really bonded and I feel like they are my kids!  I love teaching!  It is definitely hard - I think it is one of the hardest jobs people can have, but to hear the kids say "Oh I see - I get it", makes it all really worth it.  It is an amazing career and I am very blessed to be at this school.  I couldn't have jumped in mid-year without the support of these phenomenal

teachers, Dr. England, and the Board - they are all amazing."

We feel very fortunate to have Lacey at TVCS  teaching 5th grade. She is an asset to our staff and has fit in well with the students - which is apparent by how much they like her.  Thanks Lacey for all you do and keep up the good work!

From the Board of Trustees

The Board Chairman, Lee Miller and Vice Chairman, Jani Knox attended the Idaho Charter School Network's Board member training this last month. Other board members will attend Idaho School Board Association's annual training this summer.

Additionally, the board is working with Dr. England to prepare our first annual stakeholder satisfaction survey to be distributed in May.  We hope you will fill it out as the board greatly values your feedback.

Student Council News

Student Council continues to meet each Tuesday. Currently we are discussing the possibility of hosting a student talent show to take place near the end of the quarter. Springtime can be a busy time of year with a number of school activities and spring sports filling schedules, so we are considering the details and how best to coordinate a time for students to audition and perform a variety of talents for our community.  We have more to discuss and plan, so please watch for updates on this idea!
