Way To Go

Jessica Hagashi is our P.E. teacher at TVCS. Even though she works less than part time hours, that has not stopped her from going above and beyond for our school.  Jessica recently wrote a grant and was awarded $400 from the Idaho Assoc. of Health, PE, Recreation and Dance to purchase PE supplies.  She also started a lunch time Walking Club and is supervising our girls afterschool Cheer Club.  She is planning a Jump Rope for Heart event, as well as a Field day in the next month or two.

We are happy to have Mrs. Hagashi part of the staff.  We want to give her a shout out and thank her for making the Physical Education program at TVCS GREAT!

Spotlight 4th Grade

Mrs. Tacke is our 4th grade teaching expert and is a great asset to the TVCS staff. Did you know Mrs. Tacke is a published author? She wrote Ada Visits the Capital and co-authored an Idaho History Text book called Idaho Landscapes. With all that rich Idaho History background, it is no coincidence that she was snatched to teach 4th grade at TVCS.

Mrs. Tacke works hard to make her lessons hands-on, engaging, real world applicable and fun.  Additionally since the 4th graders are learning about Idaho history this year, the class has been going on many fieldtrips as Mrs. Tacke has planned one a month. The 4th Grade has also partnered with the Idaho Historical Society for their Service Learning this month (which you will read more about next month).

Mrs. Tacke says she couldn't do all she is doing without the help of so many supportive parents. She has parents who help in the classroom, with projects and fieldtrips, as guest speakers, correcting papers, as well as sharing ideas and items to enhance classroom learning. She really appreciates all the support they continue to give her.

One student had this to say about Mrs. Tacke, "She always is creative and fun and is really smart. She makes creative ways to do lots of things that we don't want to do but when we try it, we love it. She is all the core value words." - Sabrina

Another student had this to say "Mrs. Tacke does different strategies and games for different subjects that are really fun" -Heidi

Mrs. Tacke said she looks at the 4th grade class as coming a long way toward becoming a community this year as they have really gelled. She went on to say, "When we have had challenges, we have set goals to overcome them and have worked really hard to meet our goals."

It has been fun to learn more about Mrs. Tacke the fun things the 4th grade class has been doing.

LOST & FOUND REMINDER

Due to the overabundance of jackets, coats, hats, gloves, sweaters and sweatshirts that adorn our hallway lost and found rack, we will be making a donation to Goodwill over the break.  When you are at the school this week for the book fair or your conference, please stop by the rack and claim anything that may be yours.  Thank You!

Upper Grade Band Approved

This month two ambitious 5th grade girls presented to the Board of Trustees a proposal to start a band at TVCS.  These students prepared a Powerpoint presentation outlining the significant impact that playing musical instruments has on school work.  the girl's research indicated that students who play instuments do considerably better in various subjects including reading and math, then those who do not.

Due to their well thought out plan and presentation, the Board approved their proposal and a band will soon be forming.

If you have a 5th grade or older student who would be interested in joining the band, please contact Jodi Liby or Kerrie Crowley at

jodiliby@thevillagecharterschool.org or
