 Explorer News

We are making a few changes to our newsletter publication.  We recently started to notice that there is a need for more than one  newsletter each month.  We decided the first newsletter in the month will be called "Village News" and will be focused on messages from the Principal and teachers about staff related items.  The second newsletter called "Explorer News" (this one) will be sent later in the month and will be geared toward community related items. Both newsletters will contain important school information. If you have any feedback or articles you would like to see published in the Explorer News, please contact Jani at jani@thevillagecharterschool.org.  Thanks!

School Culture

Did you know that each class is working on a character development chain?  When a student exhibits a characteristic that is in line with our ACE Approach and core values, an observer is welcome to write a note in the form of a colored strip of paper about what they saw.  These strips are read to the class and mapaper chainde into a link to be added to the others forming a chain.  This is a fun visual represetation of actions that depict our positive character traits. Each classroom has a growing chain.  If you are ever volunteering in your child's class and see positive behavior that you would like to highlight, we welcome you write it on a strip.  Each teacher has a stack of the strips or there are some on the counter in the workroom.  It is extra meaningul when parents from the "outside" notice positive student behavior.  We hope you will participate in this program as the goal is to link all the chains together and circle the building with one big long chain.

BLACK & ORANGE DAY

Remember that Monday October 31st is Black and Orange day.  Students are welcome to wear Halloween attire as long as it is not gorry, scary or otherwise inappropriate.  The students also should NOT wear costumes to school for the following reasons:

  • Costumes disrupt the educational plan for the day
  • Costumes are often inappropriate (bloody, scary  and  can be very frightening for younger students-often the costumes come with weapons of some sort
  • Costumes make it difficult to participate in the daily activities
  • Costumes may get ruined pieces of the costume get lost etc., before the evening family celebrations
  • The difficulty and time wasted changing in and out of costumes is a waste of precious class time

We hope you understand and will support this policy.  We do want the day to be fun and all classes will have a party in the afternoon.

                            halloween

Let you childs teacher know if you have any questions about the day or if you would like to help with the party.  Thanks.

<<Please Use Caution>>

A parent recently reported that students were almost hit one morning out in front of the school when a parent pulled up to the school and crossed over on to the sidewalk.  As you drive to and from school each day, will you please watch out for children, drive carefully and be aware.  It is often dark now during the morning drop off and children are sometimes hard to see.  We really appreciate it!

    Attendance

    Dear Parents,

Please remember that attendace is essential to our school's success.   Our funding is largely deter-mined by daily attendance data.  We are having more and more abscences lately and we want to raise awareness that if at all possible, please make sure  that your students attend school every day if they are not sick.   We request that you do not use school days to extend vacations or make routine medical or dental appointments.  Please plan these appointments on Friday or after 4 pm. We greatly appreciate this consideration.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Teresa England
