TeenForce Report

May 8, 2012

Greetings!

The White House has rolled out the complete Summer Jobs+ ecosystem which includes an online Jobs Bank and several apps for mobile devices.  TeenForce is proud to be a featured partner in this initiative.

It isn't too late for businesses to join TeenForce and make commitments to support our youth with summer employment.  We have committed to 100 jobs this year.

If you want to get involved, we can be your turnkey partner to find, screen, hire, train, insure and pay the youth.  All you need to do is offer the opportunity.

Our participation in Summer Jobs+ was mentioned (barely) in the official White House press release!

Lions Club Date Night:  May 12 in Los Gatos!
This adult event is not to be missed, with an amazing line-up of restaurants and wineries working together to raise money to support youth mental health programs.  Get the details and buy tickets.

Online Skills Training with LearnUP

We are collaborating with a great skills training partner, LearnUp.  This site is free to learners and offers numerous training modules from employers such as Safeway, Starbucks, Whole Foods, Home Depot and Staples.

Youth can register for free at www.learnup.me and begin learning right away.  The site tracks your learning and allows youth to create "learning profiles" that can be uploaded to employers.

This is a great way for teens to differentiate themselves from the pack.  Employers will recognize "active learners" and be more likely to schedule interviews.

New Foundation Supporters

We are pleased to announce recent funding support from two new foundations and a number of private donors.

  • The Leo M. Shortino Family Foundation supports at-risk youth initiatives and provided a $10,000 challenge grant to help us continue developing our foster youth jobs program.  We were quickly able to raise the matching funds from private donors and from The Waitte Foundation.
  • We also received a $5,000 challenge grant from Protecting Children from Conflict and once again were able to raise the matching funds.

Thanks to all of our supporters! If you are interested in helping please visit our donations page.

About Us

TeenForce is a self-sustaining non-profit organization that helps teens (ages 14 - 20) gain work experience.  We provide work readiness training, skills development and job placement services.  Our staffing agency model makes it convenient and cost-effective for employers to hire teens and generates revenue to support our activities.

Teens in our program gain confidence and skills, while improving adult/teen relationships.  Teens become healthy, caring and responsible young adults who have important roles in the community.

We are located at 4525 Union Avenue in San Jose. We are open Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM.
