TeenForce Report

August 12,  2011

Greetings!

July brought record results to TeenForce with a total of 2,160 hours worked and over
logoshot
$21,000 in wages paid to 54 teens. These record activity levels generated earned income that covered 56% of our operating costs - meaning that we are over half-way to our goal of covering 100% of our operating costs! We had significant contribution from each of our programs, with 40% of the hours coming from part-time jobs, 40% from paid internships and 20% from the foster youth program.

We will be celebrating our success with our inaugural Youth Workforce Develpment Luncheon on September 22.  The event will be at The Terraces of Los Gatos and co-hosted by EMQ FamiliesFirst and Silicon Valley Children's Fund.  Invitations will be out very soon, but you can register now by going to our home page.  Individual tickets are $50 and sponsorship opportunities are available.  Hope to see you there.

Handstand-Inc.
Four of our teens working at Handstand-Inc.
Handstand-Inc. is a start-up mobile application firm based in Mountain View, CA. John Lekashman, Vice President at
Handstand-Inc., hired five summer interns. In addition to working in quality assurance, the teens had time to pursue skills such as Programming and Graphic Design.  The five youth (two recent Los Gatos High grads, and students from DeAnza, Occidental and USC), had the opportunity to experience a true Silicon Valley start-up environment and be part of a company on the precipice of new technology.
"Being able to work with these teens has been beneficial to both the teens and the company," said Mr. Lekashman. "I hope that they have gained real-life experience and been able to explore possible career options. TeenForce made it easy and convenient for me to hire exactly who and when I needed." Thank you to Handstand-Inc. and Mr. Lekashman for your support of TeenForce and our teens!

Community Youth Workforce Development Luncheon

This event marks the culmination of a successful summer, including the launch of our internship program and the completion of our foster youth pilot program.  Please join us to hear about our success and the areas where we learned to improve!
As we start our second full year, we are seeking new employers that can provide work opportunities for foster youth and non-foster youth.  We are begining to expand our reach into San Jose, and it is important that we find work opportunities that are close to where these youth live and go to school.
Formal invitations will be out Monday, but all the details are available here.  Thanks for your continued support.

About Us

TeenForce is a self-sustaining non-profit organization that helps teens (ages 13 - 20) gain work experience.  We provide work readiness training, skills development and job placement services.  Our staffing agency model makes it convenient and cost-effective for employers to hire teens and generates revenue to support our activities.

Teens in our program gain confidence and skills, while improving adult/teen relationships.  Teens become healthy, caring and responsible young adults who have important roles in the community.

We are located at 101 Church Street, Suite 19 in Los Gatos. We are open Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM.
