TeenForce Report

June 7,  2011

Greetings!

We are pleased to report that activity is in full swing at TeenForce entering the summer.  We have positive developments to report in all three of our "business segments" (part-time jobs, summer internships and the Foster Youth Program).
We have also begun gaining attention in the media and are pleased with the overall increase in activity levels.  Thanks for your continued support of our efforts. And, a special thanks to our TeenForce teens, who are proving their value and helping build our reputation with every work shift.

-John Hogan

TeenForce is creating a buzz in the local media. InsideLG wrote a story about TeenForce last month, explaining how TeenForce got started and what we do. The Los Gatos Patch also wrote an article following our first press release, which spoke about our generous grant from the Valley Foundation that is being used to support our Foster Youth Program.

We also received some national media attention in this article on the Christian Science Monitor website.  We were pleased to be mentioned as one of the bright spots in an otherwise challenging market for teen jobseekers.

Update on Foster Youth Program

With help from the Valley Foundation grant, our Foster Youth Program is off to a great start! Several foster youth from the East Side Union High School District, along with non-foster youth from Los Gatos, have started working at the Terraces of Los Gatos, a retirement facility on Blossom Hill Road. The teens work as resident assistants and in food service jobs at the healthcare facility. You can read more details about this innovative program in our press release.

Internship Update

These last few weeks have brought TeenForce a handful of new internship opportunities. Mathnasium, a tutoring center located in Campbell, recently hired a summer intern to tutor students in math. They not only got a great new tutor, but are offering a teen with ambitions to become an algebra teacher a great opportunity.  Los Gatos Auto Service hired an aspiring mechanic to work for them last month.  Blossom Dental Excellence, our featured client this week, just signed on with a college student intern who works in their office and also as a business to business salesperson. Power Production Software is working with three local teens to provide technology internships at their Bascom Avenue location. The teens are working on animation software for the film industry and learning the computer skills needed to succeed in the technology industry.

We are still looking for candidates to fill two internship positions this summer. If you are strong programming skills (C++), or can read and speak Mandarin Chinese, please contact Elly Detweiler at ellydetweiler@teenforce.org to get more information!

About Us

TeenForce is a self-sustaining non-profit organization that helps teens (ages 13 - 20) gain work experience.  We provide work readiness training, skills development and job placement services.  Our staffing agency model makes it convenient and cost-effective for employers to hire teens and generates revenue to support our activities.

Teens in our program gain confidence and skills, while improving adult/teen relationships.  Teens become healthy, caring and responsible young adults who have important roles in the community.

We are located at 101 Church Street, Suite 19 in Los Gatos. We are open Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM.
