| TeenForce Report | March 21, 2011 |
Greetings!
This special edition of the TeenForce report highlights two major milestones in our development: - We announce a significant grant from The Valley Foundation, one of the leading Silicon Valley philanthropic organizations.
- We also announce our newest initiative to provide work opportunities for youth in foster care. This is our third major program, joining our part-time jobs initiative in Los Gatos and our Summer Internship program.
Please read below for the details of these milestones including the special partners that are helping us make it happen. Thanks for your continued support.

Client Profile: The Terraces of Los Gatos
Career opportunities in the healthcare industry were the topic of the day when 10 of our teens were hosted by the management team from The Terraces of Los Gatos for a career information session. We heard from the Executive Director and directors of human resources, dining services, facilities, wellness, assisted living, resident services and nursing services. The directors discussed entry level positions in their departments as well as career paths and the educational requirements and training needed for advancement.
All of this is a prelude to a tremendous opportunity that The Terraces of Los Gatos is providing to our youth this spring and summer. We will have 10 students available in part-time work assignments beginning in April, with the majority of slots being reserved for youth in foster care. Alex Candalla, Executive Director, and his entire management team at The Terraces are very supportive of youth development and also wanted to ensure that special emphasis was put on providing opportunities to youth with significant barriers to employment.

Important support from The Valley Foundation
We are thrilled to announce that The Valley Foundation has awarded TeenForce a $50,000 grant to support our initiative to provide jobs to youth in foster care. The Valley Foundation grant will enable us to strengthen our staffing and training infrastructure to prepare foster youth to land and succeed in their first jobs.
This grant is not only significant on its own merits, but it represents a major milestone for TeenForce in that it is our first significant foundation grant. It represents a third-party endorsement of our strategy to build a self-sustaining organization that provides a valuable service to employers while also offering youth of all backgrounds a chance to succeed in their first work opportunities.
We look forward to keeping you informed about the successful deployment of these funds and how we will translate them to valuable experiences for youth in the Silicon Valley. |

Recognizing additional partners in this project
We are pleased to be working with EMQ FamiliesFirst and the Silicon Valley Children's Fund as we prepare the youth for the work assignments at The Terraces. These well-known Silicon Valley agencies have long served youth in foster care and have assisted us in introducing the TeenForce program to a number of qualified youth.
They will continue to support our efforts in training and supporting the youth as they enter the workforce. EMQ FamiliesFirst will include mentoring support as part of the wrap-around services that they are already providing. And, the TeenForce work program will become part of the services provided in the Emerging Scholars program developed by a partnership between the Silicon Valley Children's Fund, Social Services Department of Family and Children, and the County Office of Education.

We encourage you to read more about each of these organizations and to offer your support where possible. |
