TeenForce ReportNovember 18,  2010
Greetings!

Welcome to the eighth TeenForce Report of 2010!  This issue brings an update on our various initiatives and strategy relative to the internship program and business development in general.  We encourage you to check out the links below that talk about the Alternative Staffing Alliance and some of the special companies that are using the staffing model to improve the lives of people that face significant barriers to employment.

We also want to take this time to wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving.  We are very grateful to the teens, clients and volunteers that have made this a very rewarding endeavor that has great promise for long term success.  If you would like to donate to assist our growth, just click here.  $50 covers our cost to bring new teens on board and provide the orientation and training that they need to get off to a good start in their first job.

Soda Works Plaza
The five local businesses that make up Soda Works Plaza turned to TeenForce for help with managing their busy parking lot.  The businesses have received very positive feedback from customers who are pleased to find parking more readily available.  This success is likely to lead to additional coverage hours for our teens, which is a great win-win for the teens and the client. Please visit our newest clients and say hello to the TeenForce teen who is on duty.
Internship Program Update
We continue to make progress with organizing this program.  Last week a local community leader hosted an information event at her home that was attended by senior management from several of the leading technology firms in the Valley.  It was great to hear that they were interested in local youth and have them express interest in the program.  We will continue to follow up.  We need a handful of local leaders to volunteer to assist us with finding internships for next summer.  You can get details on our web site.

Staffing and Sales Initiatives
As we mentioned in our last update, we definitely have more teens seeking work than we have jobs.  We are very hopeful that the coming holiday shopping season will create opportunities for our teens.  We are "walking the talk" by hiring a couple of teens to help us with our sales efforts.  We are also adding a couple of teens (part-time) as staffing specialists in order to free up more time to make sales calls.  If you can create part-time or temporary work opportunities for teens, please let us know.  We have a number of students ready, willing and able to help with all of your holiday support needs, both at work and around the house.
Industry News
We attended the annual conference for the Alternative Staffing Alliance in early November.  This is a group of non-profit organizations that use the staffing model to assist people who have barriers to employment.  TeenForce is one of two members of the Alliance that focus on jobs for youth.  Many of the other 50 members work with ex-offenders or persons with disabilities.  We were encouraged to hear that one of Alternative Staffing Alliancethe focus areas for the Alliance in 2011 will be to increase the support and visibility of youth staffing initiatives.  We would also like to call your attention to this story about one of the Alliance members that has done an amazing job in using the staffing model to help their clients.  DePaul Industries in Oregon paid over $9 million in wages to persons with disabilities who worked over 600,000 hours in fiscal 2010.  What a tremendous success story!

About Us
A teen for every job and a job for every teen!

TeenForce is a non-profit organization developing Los Gatos and Monte Sereno youth through skills training and on-the-job work experience.
We accomplish our mission by operating a temporary employment agency exclusively for teenagers. This model makes it very convenient for local businesses and residents to hire pre-screened and eager teens for temporary and part-time assignments. We handle all the paperwork, tax filings, and insurance. All that you need to do is provide the opportunity!
We are located at 101 Church Street, Suite 19 in Los Gatos. We are open Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM.
