TeenForce ReportOctober 5,  2010
Greetings!

Welcome to the sixth TeenForce Report of 2010!  We are thrilled to announce that we have established new records in terms of the number of hours billed and number of teens employed.  Last week, we had 19 teens work a total of 235 hours.  This is about 1/3 of the way to our goal volume and we are pleased with the steady progress we are making.

This issue showcases a little known but fabulous gem of our high school education system called Career Technical Education (CTE).  This program not only helps students prepare for college, but also helps them become "career ready" at the same time.  We encourage you to explore their web site.

We also introduce and thank our newest client, Soda Works Plaza.  Read more in the left hand column.  Thank you for your continued support.

-John Hogan

PS - This is the last chance to sign up for our Internship Event, this coming Thursday.  We would love to see you there.  See below for details.

Soda Works Plaza

The five local businesses that make up Soda Works Plaza turned to TeenForce for help with managing their busy parking lot. We have three teens covering a variety of peak-hour shifts. After just a few days, the businesses are already receiving positive feedback from customers who are pleased to find parking more readily available. Please visit our newest clients and say hello to the TeenForce teen who is on duty.

Career Technical Education (CTE)
Providing hands-on training for career preparation

Career Technical Education (CTE), unites students, teachers, and employers in order to bridge the gap between what is taught in an education situation and how those skills and knowledge are applied in the workplace.

Today Show CTE clipCTE works with 15 different areas of industry, covering virtually every job imaginable.  Its courses bring technical knowledge to the minds of prospective college students or future employees and gives them an experience advantage over their peers.  With hands-on training in each student's preferred career field, they become better prepared to enter the workplace or future education opportunities.         (click image to access CTE site)

Working through local high schools and the Central County Occupational Center, CTE brings quality career education right to the students who need it.  Click here to visit Santa Clara County's CTE page, which contains videos regarding local programs as well as a Today Show clip giving a brief overview of the CTE system.

Our goal is to become a self-sustaining non-profit through the job placement activities that we conduct.  At this time, however, we would appreciate funding support until we reach required volumes.  Just $25 covers our cost for a teen to participate in our extensive (paid) 2.5 hour orientation program, which includes a review of labor laws, workplace etiquette and detailed training on workplace safety and sexual harassment.  If you would like to help TeenForce continue our service to the community, please visit our Donation page on the TeenForce website.  Thank you!

About Us
A teen for every job and a job for every teen!

TeenForce is a non-profit organization developing Los Gatos and Monte Sereno youth through skills training and on-the-job work experience.
We accomplish our mission by operating a temporary employment agency exclusively for teenagers. This model makes it very convenient for local businesses and residents to hire pre-screened and eager teens for temporary and part-time assignments. We handle all the paperwork, tax filings, and insurance. All that you need to do is provide the opportunity!
We are located at 101 Church Street, Suite 19 in Los Gatos. We are open Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM.
