TeenForce ReportSeptember 2,  2010
Greetings!

We have two very exciting progress points to discuss in this edition of the TeenForce report.

First, we have received our formal IRS approval as a non-profit under section 501(c)(3).  This means that contributions to TeenForce are deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.

TeenForce logoSecond, we are very pleased to announce that we have hired Ryan Johnson as our Teen Development Coordinator.  Ryan started last week and will fill an important role as we expand our service offerings to local teens.

We were also thrilled to sign up 4 new clients last week, representing a total of eight new job orders.  Please continue reading for details on all of the above.

Follow-up: Jill's Ride for Hope
A bike ride event for LGHS' CASSY

This event was a tremendous success this past weekend, with over 300 riders participating.  One of the highlights was the dedication of a memorial park in front of Los Gatos High, complete with an inspiring piece of art.  Please make sure to visit next time you are on campus.  For more information, please visit the event website or CASSY's website.
Support TeenForce with Donations
IRS approval complete; donations are deductible

We have developed and launched our business utilizing an initial grant from our founder.  As you have seen from the newsletters, we have had some initial success in building the model and we have put 22 teens to work for over 1800 hours in just a few months.  The executive summary from our business plan describes our objective of becoming a self-sustaining non-profit (that is, the revenues we generate from job placements will offset our operating costs).

Until we achieve this objective, we need donations from the local community to help offset our costs. Our objective is to be breaking even by next summer.  Please visit the donations page of our website to use our convenient PayPal donations tool, or to get information on simply mailing a check.

Amounts as small as $25 can pay for the new-hire orientation for a teen, which covers workplace etiquette, sexual harassment training and workplace safety during the 2.5 hour module.

We appreciate cash contributions, but will also remind you that the very best way to support our efforts is to place a job order and help us put a teen to work!
Ryan Johnson Named Teen Development Coordinator

Our mission isn't simply to place teens in jobs.  We want to be sure we are placing teens who are prepared, certified, trained and productive.  This ensures a win-win for our teens, our clients and the community.

We are excited to announce that Ryan Johnson has joined our team to build out the training and development side of our business.  Ryan will be coordinating and offering courses in interviewing, customer service and workplace etiquette.  In addition, he will be reaching out to the community to help us offer specific job skills training such as office equipment certification, food service and safety, and retail skills such as sales and cash register operations.

Ryan is a 2006 graduate of Santa Clara University.  Just as importantly, Ryan is a graduate of Blossom Hill Elementary, Fisher Middle School and Los Gatos High.  He is a perfect fit as we continue to develop our services to support local youth.
Client Profile: We've Got Your Back
New Los Gatos business supports TeenForce

We've Got Your Back has hired a TeenForce teen from Los Gatos High School to help with improving the coordination of their online marketing efforts.  Co-owner Rita Marcojohn is pleased with the recent launch of her retail store in downtown Los Gatos, and is seeking to expand the reach of her online store.  TeenForce will be helping her develop her Social Media Marketing platform (Facebook, Twitter, email marketing and blogs), while also improving performance tracking.

Rita said, "We were impressed with Michelle's current knowledge of the technology and with TeenForce's commitment to offer further training and support in this area.  In this case, TeenForce is doing more than just providing an employee...they are adding value to our marketing efforts."

We have had multiple inquiries for support with Social Media Marketing and are working hard to develop our own knowledge in this arena and to identify a trained group of teens to offer these services to our clients.

About Us
A teen for every job and a job for every teen!

TeenForce is a non-profit organization developing Los Gatos and Monte Sereno youth through skills training and on-the-job work experience.
We accomplish our mission by operating a temporary employment agency exclusively for teenagers. This model makes it very convenient for local businesses and residents to hire pre-screened and eager teens for temporary and part-time assignments. We handle all the paperwork, tax filings, and insurance. All that you need to do is provide the opportunity!
We are located at 101 Church Street, Suite 19 in Los Gatos. We are open Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM.
