It is with great pleasure that we acknowledge and introduce Larry Skaggs, who will serve as Governor in Rotary year 2014-2015.

Upon retirement from the Police Department, Larry moved to Henderson, NV and worked for several years as a college instructor, mainly teaching criminal justice courses.

Summerlin Rotarians at Work

Las Vegas Summerlin Rotarians at Work Day project was to spruce up the Wayne Bunker Park in Las Vegas.  If it did not move, they painted it. In addition, on July 4 they participated in the Summerlin Patriotic Parade as balloon wranglers.  The moeny earned went towards RI's Polio Plus campaign (in the name of each wrangler). The club also participated in the Showers of Appreciation in which they wrap baskets for the moms-to-be partners of service members deployed overseas and participated in the distribution as well.

Corazon Super Build May 19, 2012

In order to participate, club commitment forms and money for the Corazon Super Build project on May 19, 2012, our District home-building in-a-day project in Cerra Azul near Tecate, Mexico, are due prior to March 15, 2012. For more information, or to obtain a copy of the form, visit the www.district5300.org or contact Roger Adams at rogerminna@earthlink.net.

Have a creative fund raising idea?

At this weekend's Presidents' Advance (Retreat), the visioning exercise came up with a number one priority for the clubs: Could the District help us identify creative fund-raising ideas and resources? The answer is yes!

Not all Club Presidents were able to attend however, and this Quick Note asks you to submit your ideas to PDG Christine Montan at cmontan@hotmail.com, so that we might post them on the website. I need the name of the fund-raising project or event, a sentence or two describing it, and a contact person, phone number and email, if it is not the President who wishes to be contacted by other clubs.

Some examples? Rancho Del Chino's Skeet and Eat, Boulder City Sunrise's Passion for Purses, Upland's Hang Out at the Hanger, Green Valley's Chalk Art Festival, and Foothill Communities Texas Hold 'Em Tournament. Not a golf tournament in sight.  Submit your club's successful project by February 17.

The District's newest provisional club meets Thursday evenings at 6:00pm at Frontera's Mexican Grille at 118 West Main Street, Alhambra. All interested Rotarians are invited to visit, meet the 'new kids on the block', encourage professionals who live or work in Alhambra or adjacent communities to consider joining. A casual location, laid back 'outdoor' atmosphere, inexpensive food and beverage, and an excited group makes for a great way to spend an evening.
