ROTARY GAZETTE
GOVERNOR'S CORNER

Princess TrophyHappy New Year Fellow Rotarians! I attended my very first Rose Parade on January 2, 2012. Being a Southern California native the opportunity to attend this worldly event has never presented itself, but as the District Governor for the host district, I found it exciting and worthy. PDG Gene Hernandez chaired the Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee this year. The rotary float received the Princess Award for Best Design in floats under 31 feet. I personally want to thank those clubs who donated funds. If your club has not yet had the opportunity, please send $50 on behalf of your club to www.Rotaryfloat.org. Many thanks.

A Message from DGE Dr. Sylvia Whitlock

Time is fast approaching when you will miss the opportunity to attend PETS. RI requires that all president elects attend PETS - their own, or another district's (which is harder to find and will entail additional expense) I urge you to register (online) as soon as you read this and be counted in those plugging along with Service Above Self.  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Foundation Goal
District 5300 Rotary Foundation Contribution

We have all heard about Rotary's $200 Million Challenge in response to a grant of $355 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help eradicate polio. The challengemust be completed by June 30, 2012. However, there is so much more to The Rotary Foundation, which makes your contributions all the more important. The District 5300 Goal for Foundation Giving 2011-2012 is $286,085 of which we are currently behind at only 36% of goal.  Your continued contributions can give the hopeless new hope.  Send in your club contributions monthly.

We want to hear about your club projects and stories.  Send your pictures and stories to quicknotes@district5300.org
