GOVERNOR'S CORNER

PDG Garbis Der Yeghian has been appointed to represent Rotary International President, Kalyan Banerjee, at the District Conference in Turkey.  This is not only a great honor for PDG Garbis, but for district 5300 as well.  This appointment marks the first time in Rotary History, an Armenian American Rotarian will be representing the RI President at the District Conference.  In a personal invitation to PDG Garbis, President Banerjee stated "Rotary will continue to grow and expand our work for peace and world understanding because of the efforts of committed and caring Rotarians like you." DISTRICT 5300 REPRESENTATIVE TO THE 2013 COUNCIL ON LEGISLATION SELECTED

Congratulations go out to PDG Barbara Risher Welch, who has been elected to represent District 5300 at the 2013 Council on Legislation in Chicago.  Every three years, each district sends a representative to the Council, which reviews proposed legislation. Every club and district is entitled to submit legislation to the Council. The Council comprises more than 500 representatives from every part of the Rotary world. Voting members include one elected representative of the clubs of each Rotary district. If your club is considering proposing legislation for the Council, please contact PDG Barbara Risher Welch at [email protected].  The deadline for submitting club and district legislation for the 2013 Council is December 31, 2011. 

 GEORGE R. HENSEL ETHICS CONTEST

Hold the George R. Hensel Ethics Contest at your Club. It is easy and there is little or no cost. Your Club can celebrate outstanding youth in the community. Your winner could win $3000 from the endowment.

 

* The essay must be submitted to your local Rotary Club either by email (MS Word or PDF format) or U.S. mail no later than Tuesday, February 28.

* You must be enrolled in a high school or live in District 5300. In addition, you must be in the 9-12 grades on March 31, 2012.

NEW YEAR's RAFFLE

Pasadena Rotary is excited about it's first New Years Raffle! The proceeds will go to the club's Foundation, which supports programs like Community Grants and Teachers of Excellence. The Raffle prize includes four tickets to the Rose Parade, four tickets to the Rose Bowl game, three nights lodging for four and invitations to the Float Committee Holiday Party. WALK FOR A CURE

Join Team Rotary & Help Find a Cure to Juvenile Diabetes.  The annual "Walk for a Cure" (of Juvenile Diabetes), takes place at Los Angeles Dodger Stadium on Sunday, November 6, 2011. The immediate beneficiary is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  The ultimate beneficiaries are children around the world who are afflicted with juvenile diabetes.  Join the Arcadia Rotary Club and "Team Rotary" this year at Dodger Stadium.  For more information contact Michael Ojeda at [email protected] or click on the link below.

TREES OF GIVING

The Rotary Club of San Gabriel will be hosting a special fundraising event on November 16, 2011 at The Padillo Room, 324 S. Mission Drive, San Gabriel, CA 91776.  Proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club of San Gabriel's efforts to eradicate Polio from the World and also the San Gabriel Community Coordinating Council's Senior Holiday Food Basket Program.  Throughout the event, unique trees, adopted and decorated by San Gabriel Rotarians will be raffled.  For advance ticket purchase or info on the event, please contact Mary Garcia 626-287-4922 or email [email protected].

District 5300 Rotarian C.Ray Carlson has been selected as the Zone 26 nominee for this prestigious Rotary International Award.  There are only 33 other zones worldwide in competition for the top award - a beautiful crystal trophy to be given at the RI convention in Bangkok.  Congratulations Ray for your work in Job Creation for New Generations through Entrepreneurship Education.  Send congratulatory notes to [email protected]
