GOVERNOR'S CORNER

The Board of Trustees of the Rotary Foundation has approved the Matching Grant for the District 5300 Wheelchair project. In order for the Wheelchair Foundation to coordinate this effort and distribute the chairs in the spring, District 5300 must send our District matching funds in immediately.

The District sent Invoices to the clubs Friday, October 14.

If your club has not yet submitted the check for the full amount of your pledge to the District office, you must do so by October 28.  Failure to do so may mean that your club forfeits the chance to participate this year.

Thank you again for your generosity and humanitarianism.

JOB CREATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION

Teach your students to write business plans that might eventually lead to job creation for themselves and others. During the week of 24-28 October 2011, donors will receive 2- for-1 recognition for every online contribution of US$100 or more made to PolioPlus on www.rotary.org/contribute.  The promotion will begin on 8 a.m., Pacific Standard Time (PST), on Monday, 24 October, and end at 10 a.m. sharp (PST), on Friday, 28 October.

SERVICE AWARD FOR A POLIO-FREE WORLD

Rotary International is accepting nominations for Regional and International Service Awards for a Polio-Free World, due on November 1, 2011.  The Trustees of the Rotary Foundation established this award in order to recognize outstanding contributions to the effort by Rotarians.  The Criteria and Guidelines cover the period from November 1, 1992 to the present.  Any Rotarian may nominate someone for this award.  Complete the Polio Plus Nomination Form and send it to Governor Fowler at dgfowler04@hotmail.com. Please indicate Polio-Free service award nomination in the subject line.

MEMBERSHIP IDEAS

A strong growing club requires both membership development and membership retention. A proven way to retain members is having fun!

Here a few things that our own District's clubs do:

  •    First Friday social events
  •    Travel together to projects
  •    Invite the family of Rotary to social, work and club meetings
  •    Halloween party - invite the whole family!

What does your club do to make things fun? Send me your ideas! Adrienne Cox at adriennecx@yahoo.com.
