GOVERNOR'S CORNER |
Since 1985, eradicating polio has been Rotary's top priority. Largely through the efforts of Rotarians and the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, the campaign is "this close" to its goal. Polio cases worldwide decreased by more than 40 percent during the first eight months of 2011, compared with the same period in 2010. In addition, India -- one of the four countries where the virus remains endemic (the others are Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan) -- reported only one case during that time. As you celebrate World Polio Day 2011, look for ways to inspire and motivate your club members to increase contribution levels. We are "this close" to reaching our goal. |

TELL US YOUR "ELEVATOR SPEECH" |
When asked about Rotary by a potential new member, here is what one District Rotarian says in their "elevator speech":
"I joined Rotary because it is an international service organization with a local focus. I saw unmet needs all around me, and Rotary has given me the opportunity to give back and be a part of the change that is so important. Working with other Rotarians has shown me how to give back, and belonging has made me a better person."
What do you say? Share these with us and at your next Rotary Club meeting with others in your club. For more ideas on membership contact Adrienne Cox at adriennecx@yahoo.com. |
