GOVERNOR'S CORNER

Did you know...

Doug was raised in a home that played a lot of classic country music?  His Dad and uncle had their own band as young men that played warm-up to Tennessee Ernie Ford.  Doug was thrilled when he got to meet Merle Haggard in downtown San Diego years ago and has a photo to prove it!  When you see The Governor for your club visit, be sure to ask him about good ole' Merle and the photo.

UPLAND PACKS CARE PACKAGES FOR FEMALE SERVICE MEMBERS

Upland Rotarians packed 25 care packages Wednesday to send to members of a Female Engagement Team [FET] serving in Afghanistan. FETs are attached to Army or Marine combat units, go on missions, carry full packs and weapons, and are combat trained.  Their mission is to engage the women of Afghan villages, bringing them everything from sewing machines to health care initiatives.  Upland Rotary President Bob Redick and his first lady, Past-President June Redick, initiated the service project and shopped for care package items.  Along with sun screen, socks, snacks, and other items, each box contains a letter from the club thanking the recipient for her service to country and the women of Afghanistan.  For more information about the Upland Rotary Club and their projects, visit them on the web at www.uplandrotary.com.
