As June and summer arrive, it gives us great pleasure to recap some very successful events that occurred during the last month and to look forward to other upcoming events in June and the other summer months.

First though, we'd like to take a minute to announce some very exciting news. The East/South Chamber recently hired our first part-time staff member. Her name is Peggy Patrick. Peggy grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High. From there she began a career in the legal administration field with law firms in Iowa, Texas and California. Peggy recently returned to her home town and we were fortunate enough to have her agree to work with the Chamber. You will begin seeing communications from her soon as she will be assuming much of the administrative portion of Sadie's job. In fact, she will put together this newsletter. This will allow Sadie to have more time to recruit new Chamber members. When you meet Peggy, please give her a warm welcome to our chambers.

Thanks again to all East/South members who worked on, help set up, attended and helped clean up the Taste of the South Side. The event was our highest grossing ever, which allows us to fund the South education scholarships and more. It wouldn't have been possible without all your help. We also had successful ribbon cuttings this month, the last of which was the ribbon cutting on our own new offices at RDG at 3rd and Grand downtown. We encourage you to stop in and take a look around at this great facility that RDG has made possible.

Speaking of upcoming events, the first one is the 2nd Annual Historic East Village Pub Crawl on June 7. There is still plenty of time to register for this event and order a t-shirt. This is a fun event you won't want to miss. The fun begins at 4:30 on the 7th.

The purpose of chamber membership is to promote your business. The chamber boards and members try to create opportunities, like the bus tour in April, Taste of the South Side in May, the Pub Crawl in June and the upcoming golf tournament, in which you can participate and network with other businesses in your community. These projects are successful only to the extent to which you participate and so we leave you with the request to get involved with the Chamber, have some fun and drum up some business.
