This informative course is designed to teach Law Enforcement officers how to interview, investigate and document Gangs and Gang members by utilizing free internet services such as MySpace and Facebook and other websites.
Many departments across the country are experiencing more crime related to gangs and Hybrid gangs. A solid understanding of how Hybrid gangs and street gangs operate can lead to more convictions and better investigations. By utilizing the free websites that are on the internet officers can learn new ways to conduct good investigations and get convictions.
Discussion will include: · Hybrid Gang vs. Super Gangs · Trends of Hybrid gangs and Street Gangs · Gang member interviewing techniques · Gangs and social networks
Training will include: · Using the free internet for investigations · Building a data base of your street gang members · Research of criminals via social networks · Documenting and storing pictures, videos and blogs from the internet
INSTRUCTOR: Detective Hyder is a 10 year veteran of the Metro Nashville Police Department in Tennessee. In 2005 he took a position as a Detective in the Intelligence/Gang Unit. Detective Hyder is also the Vice President of the Middle Region for the TNGIA, (Tennessee Gang Investigators Association). Det. Hyder lectures across the southeastern states regarding Street Gangs, Hybrid Gangs, Youth in the Street culture, Using MySpace and Social Network Sites for Law Enforcement. Det. Hyder instructs recruits at the Metro Nashville Police Academy and teaches classes at Vanderbilt University and TLETA, (Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy).
TARGET AUDIENCE: · All members of the criminal justice community (sworn or non-sworn). Students do not need to bring a laptop but it is permitted.
