Dear members of the CSU 2012 Summer Arts Workshop,
Thank you so much for letting Henri Brownell know you wanted a free membership account on www.acmeanimation.org, a savings to you of $300 for the annual membership!
We have spent the morning looking at your online blogs and portfolios and are excited about the artwork we have seen. We are very pleased to welcome your talents to our community.
THE ACME Network is a non-profit organization, dedicated to advancing life-long learning and career readiness in the creative industries through peer and professional mentoring of student artwork. ACME has connected students to animation professionals since 1995. Serving high school and college level students, thousands have participated on ACME and many are now working in the industry. Our AMAZING industry professionals donate their valuable time "paying it forward" to nurture you, the next generation of talent.
HOW IT WILL WORK
You will all be registering into the same online group on ACME, to more easily view and keep in touch with each other's work. ACME and our pro mentors will be paying special attention to your artwork and comments throughout the year. After you have registered, we ask that you upload two or three pieces of your artwork by August 16th, so that our professionals can assess your work and match you with an appropriate mentor. Most of you will be advanced to level 2 or 3immediately, based on review of your work. Level 2 students will enjoy peer, advanced Level 3, and professional feedback on their work, to get the benefit of many viewpoints. Level 3 students will enjoy these same benefits and will additionally be paired with an individual pro mentor who will specifically follow your progress throughout the year. You will all be eligible to participate in any 2012-2013 online webinars with pros, and will be on our alert list for special events and opportunities. You can view our list of pros, as well as other community news at:
our corporate website, http://www.theacmenetwork.org
our Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/theacmenetwork,
or our Twitter feed, https://twitter.com/theacmenetwork.
ARTWORK
For your 2-3 uploads by August 16th, short pieces from the CSU workshop, or other recently completed work are encouraged. Upload artwork in the specialty you wish to pursue-i.e. if you used to focus on illustration, but are now focusing on animation, make sure you specify the animation category when uploading artwork. Uploads should be kept under 8megs in size. At this time, the website accepts these file formats only: for movies, we accept: MOV, .Mp4, and FLV files. For stills, we accept: (24 bit color) jpg, bmp, gif files. Please give us two to three weeks to assess your work and match you with appropriate mentors. During this time, you can click on the "ACME Connect" tab from the top nav menu (http://www.acmeanimation.org/Pages/acme-connect) to view our website tutorials and tricks and tips from our pros.
In ACME's Pay-It-Forward community, everyone helps everyone else out. Towards the
middle to the end of August, high school students will begin re-entering the community. You are asked to make at least three constructive comments on lower level students' work per month. If you want to comment more, that's great. Commenting not only helps the lower level students, it helps you improve your understanding and communication of the artistic principles.
Heads up before you register: ACME is designed so that higher-level members of the community can give feedback on the artwork of lower-level artists. A level 1 student is not supposed to be able to comment on a level 2 or 3 student. Unfortunately, due to funding cutbacks to our non-profit, this feature is not working properly. This fix is our highest development priority for our next round of funding. Once students get back to school, you will receive a number of uninformed, but very positive comments like, "I'm a fan!" It is not necessary for you to respond to these comments. You will be able to distinguish valid comments by the nature of the feedback and pro comments are clearly identifiable by the gold star beside them. The other issue we are working to solve in the near term is that once a comment has been posted, it cannot be edited. Please post carefully.
www.ACMEanimation.org Conduct Code: ACME is a learning community devoted to education and training for the creative economy. Please keep your comments aligned with professional industry standards.
