Tom Tune's News From Vietnam
April, 2012
Hello From Vietnam
Tom Tune
We've been incredibly busy since returning to Vietnam.  Construction had to be completed on the dock for our mission boat, we're making more and more contacts with children and their parents, and working to train our church leaders.  Hai has joined me in Can Tho after completing two years of academic training at Four Seas College of the Bible in Singapore and I know he is going to be a tremendous boost to the work here.  Thanks for your prayers and support.  What follows is some good news and information about the work here.

Honor Roll
Uyen at University

Uyen Tran is one of our students attending Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.  Uyen has done very well, taking full loads of course work (sometimes more than a full load) every semester.  We were ecstatic when, at the beginning of the Spring Semester, Jack Tucci, Vice-President for Academic Affairs sent her a letter congratulating her on making the University's Honor Roll for the Fall of the 2011 - 2012 academic year.  This means that she has been an honor student for the past three semesters!  Jack wrote in part:

"It is with high regard that you have been named to Faulkner University's Honor Roll for the fall semester of 2011.  The commitment and perseverance you have brought to your studies made this accomplishment possible.

"According to the French philosopher Vauvenargues, 'The greatest achievement of the human spirit is to live up to one's opportunities and make the most of one's resources.'  Continue to strive toward greatness in all that you endeavor."

The 2012 - 2013 school year is Uyen's final year at Faulkner.  If it is up to her, she will graduate with honors.  For our part, we must raise her tuition for her final year and her transportation home.  The total cost will be $10,000.  Since our last Newsletter, we have received $1800 for her fund.  If you can help with a special contribution to make this final year possible, please do.

Introductions
I thought I would begin introducing some of our students here in Can Tho.  Pictured here is Nguyen Quoc Qui.  He is nine years old and in the second grade.  His birthday is September 20.  His home is pictured in the background.  Qui studies hard and is happy to be able to go to school.  He is one of our newest students to be added in the Can Tho area.

Another student is Nguyen Duy Bao.  He is 8 years old and lives in the room behind him with his grandmother.  His mother abandoned him when he was born and his father died last year.

These are wonderful little boys, full of energy and life.  Education and the Lord will make all the difference in their futures and your generous help will make both possible.

New Website
I

As you may know, Amazing Grace International is the Virginia charity that administers the tuition for our kids.  Their website has been rebuilt and newly launched.  You can see it by going to www.amazinggraceinternational.com.  You can even process your donations by credit card through the site.

Amazing Grace's mission is in the field of education and they provide an intensive Bible study course advertised in the Newspaper USA TODAY.  They have done this for over twenty years.  Amazing Grace's board is composed of members of the Church of Christ and is run by my son Mike, who preaches for the Church of Christ in Falls Church, Virginia.

Thanks for reading our newsletter this month. Again, we appreciate your prayers and support.
