Greetings!
It is hard to believe that 2011 is already coming to a close. This year has brought so much change for our family and we know that it will only continue in the future. We are so grateful for all the Lord has done in the past year and look forward with anticipation to the things He has for us in 2012.
Thank you to everyone who has partnered with us in prayer and finances up until now. We could never have gotten as far as we have without your support! If you have been thinking about becoming a monthly partner in the new year, now is a great time to let us know. We only need 36 more people to commit to $40/mo and then we can start our visa process. Just go to www.giveustheboot.org to join our team.
Maybe you are looking for last-minute giving opportunities before the tax year ends. Would you consider making a donation to help us plant churches in Italy? Just go to www.teamworld.org/give/give-online-now.html and select "Stephen and Brandy Verner" in the drop-down box under "Missionaries and Staff".
From our family to yours, we wish you a happy New Year! We are praying for God's blessings on you in 2012!
Until All of Italy Hears,
Stephen and Brandy

Counting the Blessings of 2011
When you are working towards a goal, sometimes it's easier to focus on how much farther you still have to go instead of looking at how far you've already come. While we're still on our journey to the mission field, the Lord has done some amazing things to get us to where we are today. We thought it would be good to look back over 2011 to remember all the ways the Lord has been faithful to complete that which He has called us to. Here are just a few highlights:

February We formed our encouragement team, which we have since met with every other month for prayer and accountability.
March Our whole family attended second language acquisition training in NC.
April We were blessed to be given a car, which allowed us to sell our other car and pay it off, along with the last of our credit card debt.
May Stephen went part-time at his job to allow more time for support raising.
Our family moved out of our apartment and into a rental house with a month-to-month lease, which means we won't be locked into a long-term rental agreement when it's time for us to depart for the field.
July The whole family attended our final training at the TEAM home office in Carol Stream, IL.
August Thanks to a generous financial gift, Stephen and I were both able to quit our jobs to raise support full-time.
September Our 90x40 Challenge ended, resulting in 40 new partners joining our team over 90 days for a total increase of over 18% in our monthly support.
We released a professionally-produced video to highlight the spiritual need in Italy, which has opened doors for us to share about the ministry God has called us to. Also, the director of an Italian missions organization recently saw the video and asked to show it at an upcoming conference.
November We officially crossed over the 50% mark in our support raising.
December To date, the Lord has provided 52% of our total monthly budget and 33% of our outgoing expenses!
It has been a great year, full of God's faithfulness! We're so grateful and are looking forward with anticipation to see what He will do in 2012. |

FAQ of the Month
Q: How long will you be on the mission field?
A: The short answer to this question is until the Lord sends us somewhere else or tells us to come back to the US.
When the Lord revealed His plan for our family to plant churches in Italy, He didn't let us in on all the details, including how long we will be there. All we can do is plan for what we know and trust that God will show us if and when He wants us to leave.
When the Lord called Elisha to take up Elijah's mantle, Elisha slaughtered his work oxen, used his plow as firewood to cook them, and threw himself a farewell party (1 Kings 19:19-21). Because he destroyed his means of making a living, there was no turning back to his old life! Elisha may not have known what the future would hold, but if things got tough, he couldn't just go home and pick up where he left off.
That is how we feel about our call to minister to Italians. There is no Plan B! We will sell or give away most of our belongings here and start a new life there, walking out Plan A - God's plan. While we will get to come back to the US every few years, we won't have a home here in the States. Our home and our ministry will be in Italy until the time that God tells us to do something else. |

Kids' Korner
Our Christmas celebration included attending the candlelighting service at our church on Christmas Eve, baking and decorating a brithday cake for Jesus, and spending time with the kids' grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins on Christmas Day. Thanks to the wonderful generosity of friends and family, our kids were so blessed on Christmas! Overall, it was a wonderful day!

Praise Reports
God has brought us 1 new church partner and 1 new individual partner this month!
We received $486.00 in special gifts since our last newsletter!
The Lord provided 4 different opportunities for Stephen to do freelance AV work during December. This not only brought in income for our family, but also allowed him to make contacts with churches and individuals interested in the work we will be doing in Italy. |

Quick Prayer Points
We are asking the Lord for 36 new partners to join our team and commit to $40/month. This would put us at 70% of our total monthly budget, which would enable us to start our visa process and begin to draw a partial salary from TEAM.
We are looking for additional freelance and/or temporary job opportunities that would allow us to continue providing for our family's living expenses while we work on raising the remaining monthly support to get us to 70%.
Please pray for Vite Trasformate, the newly developed ministry to human trafficking victims in and around Bologna, Italy. (More info to come on this in a future newsletter.) |

Fun Facts
Christmas in Italy
The Christmas season in Italy is traditionally celebrated December 24-January 6, or Christmas Eve through Epiphany. This follows the pagan season of celebrations that started with Saturnalia, a winter solstice festival, and ended with the Roman New Year, the Calends.
Although Babbo Natale (Father Christmas) and giving presents on Christmas are becoming more common, the main day for gift giving is Epiphany, the 12th day of Christmas when the three Wise Men supposedly gave Baby Jesus their gifts. In Italy, presents are brought by a witch known as La Befana who arrives on her broomstick during the night of January 5 and fills the stockings with toys and sweets for the good children and lumps of coal for the bad ones.
