Letters To My Younger Self with Ellyn Spragins Discovering your inner wisdom and sharing it with others
Hello Wonderful Ladies of WIF,
What a great day September 28th was! At long last I'm writing to say thank you for letting me be part of your day and to present the Letters To My Younger Self® Seminar to you.
There is no doubt that the power of the letters concept was amplified by the candor and wisdom of "my ladies," as I like to call the panelists: Denise Quinn, Michele Meyer-Shipp and Elaine Green. Their letters' messages touched on themes we know from our own lives:
-You must learn how to stand up for yourself. You can't count on anyone else to do it for you.
-True success starts with recognizing what's true for you. Be brave enough to claim the life you are wishing for and live it to the fullest.
-Learn to ask for help.
Click here to reread Denise's, Michele's and Elaine's letters, so that you can remember the powerful moments in their lives that led to these insights. I hope you'll consider writing your own letter to your younger self to uncover your own life's wisdom. You may be surprised at what you discover. (And if you'd like others to benefit from your experience, I invite you to submit your letter here.)
I'd like to convey my special thanks to the women behind WIF who
 | | Donna, Ellyn and Sheri |
made the day so great: Kim Stirling, Donna Harris, Sheri Anolonis, Valerie Mauriello, Debbie Burklow, executive sponsor Helen Galt and the many others behind the scenes. You created inspiration and connection, vital elements for a meaningful life.
I hope our paths cross again.
Wishing you the best,
Ellyn

I got a surprise last fall when my niece texted me a photo of Taylor Swift from the December People magazine. Guess what? She's a fan! What a thrill for me.

I was honored to see the crowd that turned out for a Letters to My Younger Self Seminar at Deutsche Bank in Manhattan last summer, which included men on the panel. ( You can read about them here. )
The remaining letter-writing participants--three DB female managing directors--chose to address struggles that will reverberate with many of you who are leaders.
 | | Mary, during her college years |
Mary Chen-Eng, a child of immigrants, spoke to her younger herself in college, when she was torn between pursuing her own interests and the safe path suggested by her parents. "You don't have to shut the door on passion forever," she wrote. (Read the full letter here.)
Janice Reznick wrote to herself as a young lawyer starting out at Simpson Thacher in New York about the importance of building a bigger network. Her advice: "Many of these people around you will be your peers, adversaries and collaborators for a long time. Get to know them."
The younger self Lori Callahan addressed her letter to was in her early thirties and had just given birth to her second child. Sleep-deprived, Lori returned to work in her first significant management job, mistakenly thinking that being leader meant she should be the foremost expert in her unit's function.
 | | Lori today, with her daughter |
"As a leader your job is not to know more than (your people) do...If you create a sense of deep connection with you, and with each other, the motivation you're seeking from the team will grow."
(See Lori's full letter .)

Canyon Ranch Again! Four Days, Three Nights October 14, 2012
Last October I conducted the very first LTMYS Retreat at Canyon Ranch Lenox (MA) when the leaves were in all their glory.
I'm thrilled to report that I've been invited back to conduct a second LTMYS Retreat. I've made a few tweaks to the program. There will be two LTMYS sessions, in which you'll explore a key moment in your life, write your letter to your younger self and share it with others in our small group.
There will be plenty of time to enjoy Canyon Ranch's vast array of classes in fitness, nutrition, medicine, treatments and more. And thanks to The Spa Connection, participants will once again enjoy a 45% discount off of normal rates. It's a restorative experience that will stay with you. Interested early birds can make a reservation by calling The Spa Connection at 888.580.8388. (The package comes with an allowance for spa treatments, all meals, participation in as many of the 40+ daily classes as you like.)
