The name VESDA is an abbreviation for Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus! VESDA has become a generic name for most air sampling applications. The name VESDA is a trade mark of Xtralis (www.xtralis.com).
What is Very Early Warning Smoke Detection?
VESDA very early warning aspirating smoke detection solutions with continuous air sampling provide the earliest possible warning of an impending fire hazard. VESDA ASDs buy the critical time needed to investigate an alarm and initiate an appropriate response to prevent injury, property damage or business disruption. VESDA detectors have multi-level warnings and a wide range of sensitivity that does not degrade or change over time, so even minute levels of smoke can be detected before a fire has time to escalate. How does VESDA work?
 A VESDA detector is much like a vacuum cleaner. It sucks air from the protected environment via purpose built aspirating pipe and fittings and samples the quality of air passing through the VESDA detection laser chamber.

Upgrade ANY Fire Alarm System with Honeywell Powers's new IPGSM-DP communicator!
The IPGSM-DP Commercial Fire Communicator is used to upgrade a commercial fire system that previously reported to the Central Station by phone lines (POTS), to a system that uses an Internet or GSM cellular reporting path. The IPGSM-DP communicates via the AlarmNet relay point and has Dual Primary methods of operation. In method one, the unit communicates over the internet as primary and utilizes GSM cellular as a backup, should the internet be unavailable. In method two, the unit communicates via GSM cellular, so no communications cabling is needed. The communications method (IP/GSM or GSM only) is field selectable and easily set up. The 09' IBC Code 1007.9 and NFPA 101 section 7.2.12.1.1 now require all multi-story buildings to have two-way communications on all floors. NO EXCEPTIONS. In the past, all fully sprinklered and high rise residential buildings had been exempt.
