SCCC's Computer Systems Management & Maintenance Class Provides a Computer to a Student in Need

Back Row: Lenny Eagleman, Keith Rhoads, Penny Fox Jones, Leonard Welch Middle Row: Becky Lott, Margaret Welch, Cynthia Self, Amy Mitchell Front Row: Brad Owings and Amy Mitchell
Each year the South Central Career Center's Computer Systems Management & Maintenance instructor, Steve Balough, and his class provides a reconditioned computer to at least one student in need. A request was made for a computer to be made available for Marissa Wallace, a student at West Plains Elementary. Keith Rhoads, West Plains School Computer Technician, got involved and with the help of the computer class, Keith acquired the computer and downloaded programs in which will enable Marissa to expand her learning. Marisa has a hearing impairment which makes acquisition of knowledge and abilities to communicate difficult for her. The computer will allow her access to vocabulary needed for academic functioning and socialization. Programs have been provided which will improve her sign language vocabulary, math skills, reading skills and overall language skills. The system will help her retain what she has learned through the summer as well as allow her to investigate further academic areas. |
