Make Plans To Attend! Coffee Talk Begins! 

Coffee Talk 

Coffee Talk is a time for parents to discuss various school topics on a monthly basis with West Plains R-VII Superintendent Dr. Fred Czerwonka.

     

Coffee Talk will begin on Wednesday, October 27th from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. in the Administration Office, located at 613 West First Street.

  • This month's topic will be an R-VII Budget Update, presented by Dr. Fred Czerwonka.
  • Coffee & refreshments will be served.  

Two WPHS Athletes Received the Aldo Sebben Award 

 

 


The Aldo Sebben Award was awarded to Aaron Esterle and Olivia McCormick of West Plains High School presented by the Southwest Missouri Cross Country and Track Coaches for outstanding Class 3 High School Track & Field Athletes. The Aldo Sebben Award is voted on by all the coaches of Southwest Missouri and one male and one female is chosen each season.  For the first time ever both were from West Plains High School.   Winning this award is a major honor.  Congratulations Aaron and Olivia!

Boy's Basketball Open Gym at WPHS

 

 

Basketball

Boy's basketball open gym is offered at 7:00 to 8:00am every Tuesday and Thursday in the High School Gym. It is available to anyone interested. Official practice starts Monday, November 8th. Cuts will be

made after practice Friday,November 12th
WPHS SPEECH & DEBATE WINS MARSHFIELD TOURNEY
    

The West Plains High School Speech and Debate team traveled to Marshfield to compete in the 9th Annual Marshfield Invitational.  After competition all day Saturday with eight schools including Republic, Ozark, Branson, and Mansfield, the West Plains team took first place in overall points, with many individuals placing in final rounds.

     

The individual results were as follows: 

 

Prose Reading:  4 West Plains members advanced to finals.  Francis Ahrens- 1st place, Dayne Bonnewell- 2nd, Kelby Czerwonka- 3rd and Caitie Green- Finalist.

 

Poetry Reading: Lily Brotherton- 2nd place, Dayne Bonnewell- Finalist

 

Duo Acting: Francis Ahrens & Laura Grisham- 1st place

 

Humorous Interpretation: Laura Grisham- 1st Place

 

Extemperaneous Speaking:  Tiawna Johnson- Finalist

 

Radio Speaking: Kelby Czerwonka- 1st Place, Ben Grills- Finalist, and Lauren Cook- Finalist

 

Original Oratory: Ashley Ford- 2nd Place

 

Storytelling: Emily Bridges- Finalist

 

Lincoln Douglas Debate: Tiawna Johnson- 2nd Place

 

Public Forum Debate: Francis Ahrens & Kayla Elam- 2nd Place, Ashley Ford & Kelby Czerwonka- 3rd Place

 

The team is coached by Head Coach Axel Liimatta, Assistant Coaches Wendy Czerwonka and Christina Staab, and Debate Coach Kay Garrett.  The team heads next weekend to Branson.

Bob Pekarek Recognized as the 2010 Administrator of the Year

  

 

Recently, Bob Pekarek, West Plains R-VII Transportation Director, was recognized as the 2010 Administrator of the Year Award for the Missouri Association for Pupil Transportation.   Bob has been the transportation director for the district for 6 years and has been employed with the district for 23 years. West Plains R-VII runs 36 busses

and serves 1200 students and travels 1000 miles per day.

 

This year West Plains R-VII Schools received outstanding results on the annual school bus inspection program conducted on February 24th, 2010 by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.  Overall, 100% of the 36 buses owned by the District were approved on the annual safety inspection.  This year marks the 5th year in a row West Plains R-VII received 90% or better and the 2nd year in a row the District received 100% or better.

SCCC's Automotive Collision Technology Class Receives Welding Helmets

 

 

The Automotive Collision Technology class from the South Central Career Center was presented with welding helmets.  The helmets were donated by Airgas through the

I-Car Education Foundation for applying for the 2009-2010 Ultimate Makeover Grant.
