Ridgerunner Wins Two Awards!

Congratulations Ridgerunner!
The WPHS Ridgerunner has won two prestigious awards from the American Scholastic Press Association. The 2009-2010 magazine received first place with special merit best folklore magazine and outstanding design concept. The magazine received 980 points out of a possible 1,000 and were one of 2,000 schools entered in the contest.

Middle School Fall Festival
Make plans to attend the West Plains Middle School Fall Festival on Friday, October 8th from 6:30 to 8:30 in the FEMA Building. Hot dogs, putt-putt golf, ring toss, face painting, cakewalk, duck pond, basketball hoop shoot, football toss, dart toss, and a silent auction make the WPMS Fall Festival a great way to begin the autumn season.

Chester Drawers and All the Silly Little Song Singers Will Be In Concert at the WPE!

The children's book author, Chester Drawers, will be at the West Plains Elementary on Friday, for a 40 minute concert. The author writes songs as well as books, and he will sing songs titled Gravy on a Bucket Lid, Silly Dog, Gilbert the Goose, Sophie the Snowflake, Crazy Cat, and Quite As a Mouse.

Clothing Donations Are Needed for Nurse's Offices
There are times students have accidents, need to change because they may have ruined what they are wearing from injury, or many other circumstances warranting a change of clothes during school hours.
The following is the short list of the immediate needs per building nurses:
- Elementary School pre-K - grade 4
- Sweat pants, shirts, tennis shoes, (new) underwear for girls and boys, socks, all sizes
- Pre-K, K and 1st grade-sizes of everything
- SouthFork pre-K - grade 4
- Pants and (new) underwear for girls and boys, all sizes
- Middle School grades 5-8
- Boys and girls gym shorts, all sizes
- Shirts and shoes (all sizes), winter clothing for boys and girls, all sizes
- High School grades 9-12
- (New) ladies underwear sizes 5, 6, 7, 8
- Athletic shorts for boys and girls, all sizes
- Sweat shirts and sweat pants, all sizes
- Socks!!!

National Surgical Technology Week

Celebrate Surgical Technology Week through September 25th!
Surgical technologists are allied health professionals, who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients in a variety of settings. Surgical technologists work under medical supervision to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to ensure that the operating room or environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Zizzer Homecoming Celebration for all Zizzer Alumni
There will be a Zizzer Homecoming Celebration for all alumni of West Plains High School on Saturday, October 2nd from 5 pm to midnight at the recently renovated National Guard Armory. Admission is $8.00. A portion of the proceeds will go to the West Plains R-VII Educational Foundation.
