BASE Is Still Accepting Applications

BASE is still accepting applications for the 2010-2011 year.  BASE "Before and After School Program" is a scholastic program that runs one hour before school and two hours after school each full school day through out the year.

The sliding scale fee is $10.00 per week to $20.00 per week depending on the financial status of the family and whether they are parent pick up or bus transportation. New this year, BASE has attained license exemption from the Missouri Department of Social and Senior Services, Child Care Reimbursement Division. This means that for those families that qualify there will be no charge to the parent for the child(ren) to attend. Instead the state will pay for their participation.

Applications for enrollment, child care reimbursement, parent handbooks and other information are available at each of the three participating school offices: (South Fork, West Plains Middle, West Plains Elementary, and on line under programs, BASE, useful links).

Donate Khaki Pants to Help the SWAT Group!

The SWAT students are dressing up!  The hospital is purchasing matching shirts for each student in the SWAT class and the students have decided they would like to wear khaki pants with them as well. For some students this will be a financial hardship. As you go through your clothes to donate or yard sale please keep in mind the SWAT class.  They would appreciate khaki pants in all sizes; boys, girls, mens and womens.  Please give them to; Sheila Sparks, Joe Davis, Pam Shamblin, Bob Holmes, or Jim Mcfarland. The SWAT class has a mailbox at the high school or you can take them to the white house on Missouri Avenue.

ACT Results!

West Plains R-VII Schools is pleased to announce the recent receipt of the 2009-2010 ACT composites with students exceeding scores from the previous 08-09 school year and current state averages. The composite score for 09-10 was 21.9 compared to the state average of 21.6. The English score was 22.0 compared to the state average of 21.5.  Math was 21.5 compared to the state average of 21.0. Reading was 21.8 compared to the state score of 22.0.  Finally, Science was 21.6 which is at the state average.  Additionally, ACT calculates the "Percent of ACT-Tested Students Ready for College Level Coursework" and R-VII students were at or above state average in all four areas analyzed, English Composition, College Algebra, College Social Science, and College Biology.

The ACT reflects the achievement of students over time and also is an indication of the extent to which they are prepared for college-level work.  The ACT consists of curriculum based tests of educational development in English, mathematics, reading and science designed to measure the skills needed for success in first year college coursework.

"These scores are a testament to the hard work of our students and their teachers.  We are very proud of our faculty, staff and students and we are looking forward to a very exciting year ahead" said Dr. Fred Czerwonka, West Plains R-VII Superintendent.
