Congratulations to the Spring 2010 West Plains R-VII Educational Foundation Mini Grant Recipients!

Thanks to the generosity of the West Plains R-VII Educational Foundation, many teachers and classrooms have an avenue to obtain additional assistance for their students to fund meaningful classroom projects--- teacher mini-grants.  The West Plains R-VII Educational Foundation Mini-Grant Program is designed to provide an opportunity for educators of the R-VII District to create meaningful learning experiences for their students.  The program's goal is to encourage innovative, collaborative, and creative classroom projects that support current state and national initiatives, research, and high learning standards. These grants are making a tremendous difference in the lives of our students.

For the Spring 2010 school year, thirteen mini-grants totaling over $7,500 were approved and awarded to several teachers and classrooms.

Congratulations to Zoe Clinton West Plains Elementary, Keesha Egly South Fork Elementary, Camisha Hunter South Fork Elementary, Cynthia Hill West Plains Elementary, Patti Kelly West Plains Elementary, Rocky Long West Plains Middle School and High School Band, Suzanna House of West Plains Elementary, Allyson Byrd West Plains Middle School and High School Band, Ashley Harper South Fork Elementary, Tracie Joiner West Plains High School, Dana Reese South Fork Elementary, Kathy Miller West Plains High School and Project Graduation!

The West Plains R-VII Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization whose mission is to assist children and youth in areas not supported by tax dollars. The Foundation does this through scholarships, mini-grants, special equipment, leadership programs, parent support and student recognition. The Foundations 9-member volunteer board depends solely on private money for support.

Volunteer at the Old Time Music Festival

 Old Time

Joe Davis is in charge of volunteers this year for the Old Time Music Festival to be held June 18th-19th in the historic section of West Plains.  He would like to extend an invitation to the West Plains School District employees to have an opportunity to volunteer for this event.   This is a chance to give just a "little bit" back to the community.  Volunteering would be anywhere from one hour to three hours depending upon the request of the volunteer.

Jobs will include working at a booth, conducting surveys, and helping at the West Plains Civic Center.

Performers this year include, Jay Farrar and Bob Wills' Texas Playboys and many more artists.  There is NO CHARGE for admission.    This includes fiddling, old-time banjo playing, dulcimer playing, string-band music, ballad singing, and traditional sacred singing and more.  Something for everyone.
