SCCC's Custodial/Maintenance Program Highlights Former Student Chad O'dell

 Preschool

The Custodial/Maintenance Program at South Central Career Center enables students to enter the job market as entry level custodial maintenance workers. Students learn technical skills, conduct and job success, and how to relate to others. Chad O'dell (pictured) graduated from Bakersfield High School and SCCC (Custodial/Maintenance) in 2001. His wife Shannah is a Registered Nurse at Baxter Regional Hospital. He has a son, Davyn, who is 10 months old. Chad was employed with the R-VII Schools in 2009.

Middle School Biggest Loser Contest

Biggest Loser 24 members of the Middle School faculty and staff participated in a 12-week biggest loser contest earlier this year.  The group lost a total of 315 pounds!  Participants were asked to bring in food for pounds lost to donate to a local food bank.   Several individuals and businesses donated prizes for the weekly biggest loser, including Glass Sword, Peggy Davidson (Avon), Heather Hufstedler, Seth Bryant, Dairy Queen, Stuff 4 Trucks, Gary's Tire and Automotive, Colton's Steakhouse.  Thank you to Mr. Scott Smith (WPMS Principal) for donating a $100 Wal-Mart gift card to the biggest loser!

Zizzer Track Results!

The WPHS Zizzer Boys Track Team qualified for the State Track meet in 14 events!!  The Girls TPreschooleam qualified for the State Track meet in 4 events and placed 3rd! Congratulations & Best of Luck at the State Track meet this weekend!

Gifted Programs Night At Coltons!

The gifted programs will have Colton's Night on Monday, June 7th.  Please come and show your support of the many gifted students in the West Plains R-VII district!

The West Plains Zizzer Pride Marching Band will be holding band camps this summer for all high school band students.

Practical Nursing Now Taking Applications

 

The Practical Nursing program at South Central Career Center in West Plains is now taking applications for a January 2011 start date.  Applications will be accepted now thru end of August and testing for the program will also take place now thru end of August. 

 

A licensed practical nurse cooperatively functions with health care teams to assist clients in the avoidance of illness; to assess client's need, and to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.  The Practical Nursing program is a twelve month program in session from January to December.  Class is held Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.  

 

As a result of community need for licensed nursing personnel SCCC originally opening its doors in 1968.  After 41 years the Practical Nursing program is still thriving and the school has established an excellent standing in the community. 

 

Financial aid is available and scholarships are also available for those who qualify. Call Bethany at SCCC at 256-8668 for more information or for an application for the program. 

Ridgerunner Magazine is Now Available

The Spring 2010 edition of Ridgerunner magazine is now on sale.  Copies of the publication are $5.00 each and may be purchased in room 206 in the High School, or at Aid Downtown Antiques or Time and Talent.

Zizzer Peewee Cheer Camp

 

Zizzer Peewee Cheer Camp

June 30th-July 2nd

West Plains High School Gymnasium

Each Day 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

For students in 1st - 8th grades

Those entering Kindergarten may attend if parents call for pre-approval.

Cost is $25.00 per person.

7th Annual Dog Jog

fund-raiser for the West Plains Zizzer Cross Country Teams

Sponsored by Talburt Animal Health Center

6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 1

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.

Start and Finish at the

Heart of the Ozarks Fairgrounds

 

Activities will include:

5K (3.1 mile) Race for runners with or without a dog

1.5 mile Fun Run/Walk for those with or without a dog

 

All dogs must be on a 4 ft. leash and must be current on vaccinations to participate. 

Dogs should be well socialized and non-aggressive.  A licensed veterinarian will be on site

The course will be monitored for the safety of pets and their owners.
