WPHS Project Graduation | | Graduation for the West Plains High School Class of 2010 is fast approaching. This is thought to be a time of celebration, high hopes and lasting memories.
Seniors will be invited to Project Graduation, an all-night, substance-free party for WPHS seniors only, at the High School on Tuesday, May 25th from 10 PM to 6 AM. This event boasts a variety of activities and entertainment including a DJ, games, movies, rock climbing, and much more. In addition, food is served and prizes are awarded. As always, adult volunteers will chaperone.
Project Graduation is an all night drug-free, alcohol-free and smoke-free graduation party sponsored by volunteers to promote a safe, wholesome, yet entertaining environment for WPHS seniors. This self-supporting program is not funded from the school budget and is made possible through the generosity of parents and the West Plains business community.
In keeping with tradition, the goal is to raise enough to cover the expenses associated with Project Graduation. We hope you will join with your fellow business community members and demonstrate your support of this event by making a cash or in kind contribution.
For more information, or to donate to Project Graduation call Rhonda at 293-3735. |

Outdoor Child Safety/National Safe Kids Week
April 25th to May 3rd | |
Spring is a time of year when many adults and children are spending more time outdoors to enjoy nice weather. Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative and Safe Electricity encourages everyone to learn how to protect themselves from electrical hazards outdoors and to share this information with children.
Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative recommends teaching children to follow these rules for their safety:
ˇ Never climb trees near power lines. Even if the power lines aren't touching the tree, they could touch when more weight is added to the branch or if it is a windy day.
ˇ Kites and model airplanes should only be flown during good weather conditions in large open areas like an open park or a wide open field. They should stay away from overhead power lines or other electrical equipment such as substations. If a kite gets stuck in a tree that is near power lines, do not climb the tree to get it. Electricity can travel down kite strings or wires.
ˇ Never climb a utility pole or tower. The electricity carried by this equipment is extremely high voltage and could severely burn you or kill you.
ˇ Don't play around pad-mounted electrical equipment. These are green metal boxes that are actually electrical transformers on cement pads.
ˇ Never go into an electrical substation for any reason at any time, even if someone dares you. Substations contain very high-voltage equipment. Any slight movement inside a substation, such as raising your hand can result in electric shock. Never attempt to retrieve a pet, ball or any toy from these areas.
ˇ Immediately seek shelter if lightning or thunder is present while playing outdoors.
For more facts about keeping children safe visit the Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative website at
www.hoecoop.org and click on the Safe Electricity.

- The volleyball program will be doing various fundraisers throughout the summer to hopefully be able to pay for a portion of these camps (excluding Zizzer Camp). More information about these fundraisers will be shared later.
- While open gyms and summer off-season practices are not required, it is very beneficial to attend as much as possible to allow players to practice skills before tryouts in the fall. While in NO WAY will a player be punished for not attending, keep in mind that those who DO attend will be further along with basic volleyball technique and skill.
- Please help get the word out of these dates to anyone interested in trying out for high school volleyball for the 2010-2011 school year.
- Information regarding the volleyball summer schedule will be handed out May 20 and 27.
- If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to call Coach Erin Lovelace at 256-6150.
* The week of the Zizzer Volleyball Camp may change depending on when the state (MSHSAA) sets "Dead Week."
