| 9th Grade Science Fair Success! |
|
 |
West Plains High School Science Fair 2010 was a great success! The freshman class at WPHS participated in the first science fair West Plains High School has had in many years. Science fairs allow students to compete academically showcasing their expertise in the scientific method. These hands-on student selected projects are shown to overall increase student interest in science and elevate students understanding of scientific problems and the procedures used to solve these problems.
Five categories were included: Behavioral Science, Life Science, Environmental Science, Physical Science, and Math and Technology. Three freshman level teachers helped students submit over 215 projects with topics ranging from the evaluation of fuels to energy drink effects to the percent error of various calculators.
Judging took place on Wednesday, March 24th and the public was invited to attend on Thursday, March 25th. Many organizations, teachers, and community members contributed their time and effort to select the winners for each category. The contribution of these individuals is invaluable to the process of a science fair as they provide an objective, unbiased evaluation of each project. Winners in each category are listed below:

- While open gyms and summer off-season practices are not required, it is very beneficial to attend as much as possible to allow players to practice skills before tryouts in the fall. While in NO WAY will a player be punished for not attending, keep in mind that those who DO attend will be further along with basic volleyball technique and skill.
- Please help get the word out of these dates to anyone interested in trying out for high school volleyball for the 2010-2011 school year.
- Information regarding the volleyball summer schedule will be handed out May 20 and 27.
- If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to call Coach Erin Lovelace at 256-6150.
