| News from South Fork |
|
Mrs. Hunter's class recently worked on a project for a soldier stationed overseas. The fifth and sixth graders from South Fork created cards and letters, and donated several items. The items were sent to Tech Sergeant Daniel Weinfurter, who is a member of the United States Air Force. Mr. Weinfurter is serving on his fourth deployment, and is stationed in Camp Bastion in Afghanistan. After receiving the care package, Mr. Weinfurter wrote the students a letter and said, "This is my fourth deployment since I have been in the military and this is the first time anyboday has sent something so cool!"
Great Job South Fork 5th and 6th graders!! |

WP Elementary Participates in Jump Rope For Heart |
|
|
West Plains Elementary participates annually in the Jump Rope for Heart and this year the elementary will be hosting the event all through the month of February and part of March during P.E. class time. The program raises money for the American Heart Association.
|
The goal is to raise $250.00. This averages out to about $12-$15 per student. Check the wall in the cafeteria for class progress. Classes that reach or exceed the goal will receive an extra P.E. class period (that means free time the class!!). So please encourage these students in its endeavor.
The theme this year is: 'It Takes Heart to be a Hero'. If the school goal is met, Principal Brad Owings has agreed to dress as a 'Super Hero' for a day. (He leaped at the chance to dress like a super hero, rather than wearing a red dress!)

Dear Mr. Tech |
|
Soon to be featured in ZizzerPride News is a Dear Mr. Tech Column by Audie Johnson and his students. If you have an automotive repair question you don't know the answer to, let Mr. Johnson and his class research the question and send you back an answer.
Mr Tech gives students and faculty a chance to ask questions regarding their automobile. Questions that may cost them hundreds of dollars if not dealt with correctly. Mr Tech can possibly answer such questions as "Do I need to change the filter in my transmission?" or "What is that squeaking noise I hear in the front of my car?"
Please email your questions to ajohnson@zizzers.org |

Wild Night at the Zoo! |
|
|
Students from the West Plains High School Special Services class will be on their way to a night of adventure at the St. Louis Zoo April 15th - 16th. This experience allows a select group of special education teachers and their students to have the entire zoo to themselves, providing an exciting combination of adventure and learning.
A typical schedule for a Wild Night at the Zoo includes a theme driven live animal class, an interpretative game, a video, pizza snack, night hike around the zoo, an overnight stay under the stars or in the Exploration Building Outpost, breakfast, morning hike and a souvenir for each student.
"Some of our special needs students have never been beyond the city limits of West Plains or to a restaurant, or even to a zoo. This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for some of them", says Haley Bray, West Plains High School Special Services teacher.
The total cost of the trip is $2500.00, which pays for the transportation, all meals, snacks, zoo fees and more. The trip is no cost to parents and is fully funded by private donations.
If you would like to help send a child on the zoo adventure you can sponsor a child for just $100.00. Tax-deductible donations will also be appreciated. For more information contact Haley Bray at 256-6150. |

Two Students Accepted into Missouri Fine Arts Academy |
|
Please take the time to recognize two students who were accepted to Missouri Fine Arts Academy. This year the academy had spots for only 150 Missouri high school students. Timolyn Hardy was accepted to participate in the vocal music program, and Elizabeth Skelly was accepted into the dance program. The Missouri Fine Arts Academy provides a unique program of artistic, extracurricular, and social opportunities to Missouri's talented high school students, and has done so since 1996. The purpose of the Academy is three fold:
1. To help artistically gifted students achieve their full potential and motivate them to use their abilities in attaining higher goals.
2. To encourage local schools to establish and/or improve programs for artistically gifted youth.
3. To provide leadership in curriculum development, teacher training and the development of special materials and teaching strategies that employ interdisciplinary arts instruction to improve education within artistic disciplines and the wider curriculum.
This is a prestigious honor, please congratulate the students when you see them. |
