Huddle House Helps Little Zizzers Preschool Get New Playground Equipment |

Huddle House and West Plains R-VII have teamed up to give the community a way to help the Little Zizzers Preschool purchase new playground equipment. During the weekend of February 5th-7th, Huddle House will donate 10 percent of all proceeds to the Little Zizzers Preschool to purchase new playground equipment. Cash donations will also be accepted throughout the weekend.
This is the first year the Little Zizzers Preschool program has participated in the fundraising event with the Huddle House but hopes that this year will be a success and will become an annual event.

Jesse Hadley to Perform With the Musicians of the Canadian Brass in St. Louis. |
|
| Junior Jesse Hadley will be performing with the internationally renown musicians of the Canadian Brass on Tuesday, May 2nd at the Catholic Basilica of St. Louis. Jesse qualifies for this honor as a member of the 2010 Missouri All-State Band. Only 30 band students from the entire state were invited to this sold-out performance. Jesse will attend rehearsals and master classes, and have dinner with Canadian Brass. |

West Plains Middle School Winter Honor Assembly |

| The West Plains Middle School Winter Honor Assembly will be Thursday, February 11th at 1:45 in the gym. Any student that is on the 1st semester honor roll, earned straight A's, top AR points, or took part in middle school sport teams will be recognized in the assembly. Parents are welcome to attend. |

2010 Homecoming Date Set |

| The Homecoming date for Fall 2010 has been set. It will the weekend of Oct. 1st and 2nd, 2010. The game will be against Camdenton at 7:00 pm on Friday, Oct. 1st and the dance on Sat. Oct. 2nd. |

Four SCCC- Practical Nursing Students Receive Scholarships |
|
| Four South Central Career Center Practical Nursing students recently received 40/8 scholarships this year. The students are Brooke Atkins, Brittany Haynes, Zachary Sharble, and Brittany Staggs. Zachary Shrable and Brittany Staggs are recent Zizzer graduates. They each will receive $1000.00 to be placed towards their tuition.
The scholarship is funded by veterans who belong to La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux (the society of 40 men or 8 mules). This is a branch of the American Legion that was started after WWI. Forty men or eight mules is what would fit in a railroad car. This group conducts fundraisers for students who plan to pursue an education in nursing. |

WPHS Speech and Debate Chili Supper |

| The WPHS Speech and Debate will host a Chili Supper on February 12th from 4:30 to 6:30 in the High School Cafeteria. The team will be serving chili, baked potatoes, hot dogs, and grilled cheese. Tickets are $5.00 in advance or $6.00 at the door and includes 2 entrees, dessert, and a drink. Tickets can be purchased from speech and debate students or in the upstairs office at the high school. WP Elementary Participates in Jump Rope For Heart |
|
|
West Plains Elementary participates annually in the Jump Rope for Heart and this year the elementary will be hosting the event all through the month of February and part of March during P.E. class time. The program raises money for the American Heart Association.

The West Plains R-VII School District's pledge to United Way this year totaled $3,825.00. Dr. Czerwonka thanks all the faculty and staff for their generousity and support. There will be a photo opportunity in the near future for all who have donated to the cause. A date and time will be announced. |

Spec Mix Bricklaying 500 |
|
|
Mr. Randy Schutjer, South Central Career Center Masonry Instructor, is an official judge at the Spec Mix Bricklaying 500 contest in Las Vegas February 1st-5th. His students will be watching him live via the internet in the High School Library. |

West Plains Elementary 4H Zizz Kids Raise Money for Foster Children |
|
The 4H Zizz Kids at West Plains Elementary have decided to raise money for foster children as their first community service project. They are challenging all students to bring in a quarter to donate to the effort. The students hope to raise at least $200.00. They have made banners for the hallways and placed a money jar in the elementary office. Please help encourage the 4H'ers with this charity drive. |

Purchase a T-Shirt From the West Plains Lady Zizzer Soccer Program and Help "Kick Cancer". |

The West Plains Lady Zizzer Soccer Program and Camdenton Lady Lakes Soccer Program are joining forces to help "Kick Cancer." The hop  e is to raise awareness of cancer and to raise some money for the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer.
The programs have "challenged" each other and each team has set a goal to raise $1500 for the fight against cancer and it is up to each program to decide how they to raise the money. One way both programs will look to raise money will be through the sale of t-shirts in an attempt to "White Out" cancer. The t-shirts will be available soon for $10 each. Notification has just been received that Megan Lowe will be attending the Family, Career & Communty Leaders of America (FCCLA) Legislative Shadowing in Jefferson City on February 23 and 24. Megan will be shadowing Ward Franz.
Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national organization of students who have taken or are taking a course in comprehensive or occupational family and consumer sciences classes through grade 12. It is open to students of all races and religious beliefs. FCCLA is one of the nations largest Career and Technical Student Organizations, involving more than 225,000 students and nearly 7000 chapters in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. In 2008-2009 Missouri FCCLA had 13,013 members in 403 chapters, making Missouri the 5th largest state association. The West Plains Chapter has 44 members.
The five basic components of an FCCLA chapter are membership, advisor, leadership, meetings and projects. There are 14 national programs and a couple of state programs that members can work on. One of those is STAR Events, competitive events, that offers 23 events nationally and 6 more statewide.
