Opening your heart and your home to an international student is a wonderful way to share the love of Christ! Just imagine what it must be like to be a foreigner in another country-with different customs, strange foods, and a language that is not your own. Having an American friend would surely be a great blessing! And, meeting people from other cultures can also be an enriching experience for you and your family! Please join us on Sunday, August 29, at 6:30 p.m. in room 255 to explore the possibility of befriending an international student through our church's International Friendship Program. Practical guidelines will be presented along with a chance to ask questions before any commitment is made. Many international students desire a friend like you and have already submitted applications to us! Please come and make a difference in their lives! If you cannot attend the training, but would like additional details, please contact our church's International Student Ministry director, Ms. Lynn Bryant, at Athens1stism@aol.com or 706-202-9017.
A Samaritan Counseling Moment (from Lacy Camp) To love as Christ loves is to make a conscious moral choice of an attitude in relation to a person or group of people. In the values incarnate in the life of Jesus, this attitude is one of respect, caring, and compassion. It is a conscious choice of seeing the image of God in every person. It involves imagining that every attitude and behavior of the other person comes out of, and is understandable in light of, their life experience. Christ's love also trusts that the experience of Church - the fellowship of faith - transforms people's life experience, facilitating the development of love.
