What are we doing in missions?

Good question. The answer is a lot! We seek to be witnesses, help, serve, and make disciples with Acts 1:8 as our road map.

LOCAL - We financially support (and in other ways support through volunteers or gifts) UGA Wesley Foundation (college students); Mission Latino Food Project; Interfaith Hospitality Network (homeless mothers and children); Our Daily Bread (feeding the hungry); Bigger Vision (homeless shelter at AFUMC Saye Building Oct.-April); Mercy Health Care (medical needs); Samaritan Counseling; The ARK (rent/utility payments for those in need, etc.); Sparrow's Nest; Project Safe (victims of domestic violence). We also minister to and with our downtown guests through Souper Supper and the Christmas Community Meal. Monthly, we gather supplies for various organizations or mission trips. On April 17, we'll have the Great Day of Service. At Thanksgiving, the youth minister to local families with food, service, and love. In addition, the United Methodist Women (UMW) engage in a large number of mission projects and support. We are doing missions in "Jerusalem."

REGIONAL - This summer there are mission trips to New Orleans (youth), Appalachia (adults), New York (choir tour), North Carolina (choir tour), and Epworth-by-the-sea (youth). We are doing missions in "Judea and Samaria."

GLOBAL - A team has gone to Costa Rica. A team will be in Cuba. A team will be in the Philippines this summer. In the fall, Christmas Shoeboxes will go to children all over the world. Future strategic, relational partnerships will be in Bulgaria (Eastern Europe) and other focused geographic areas. We will do missions "to the ends of the earth."

All in all, this church is building on a great history of missions. The "sending team" is you who pray, give, and support. The "go team" is you who go out. Together, we are One Team. Through strategic focus, we will do our part to fulfill the Great Commission and "Make Disciples of Jesus Christ."

Do you want to be a part of this?
