Sunday, February 7, will be Scout Sunday
Each year we recognize these youth leadership programs and those who participate in them. This year, Boy Scouts celebrate 100 years in America and Girl Scouts will do so in 2012. Both programs involve young people, ages 6-18, in programs that continue to instill personal responsibility and character, encourage service to others, and support individuals in the regular practice of their religious faith.
Athens First UMC chartered the first Boy Scout troop in Northeast Georgia and has continuously sponsored Troop 1 for the past 75 years. On Scout Sunday - February 7 - we ask all members of Girl Scouts (and Daisies or Brownies) and Boy Scouts (and Cub Scouts) of any age or rank to wear their uniforms and join with Troop 1 to collect donations for the Souper Bowl Sunday program after each service. This annual program helps support those in need in the Athens community. To sign up to assist with collections, please contact me (greene@warnell.uga.edu) and let me know which service you prefer.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts each pledge to: "do...what Christ asked His followers to do..."On my honor...to serve God...to help people at all times...to keep myself physically strong and morally straight."
I thank each of you for your support of Scouts throughout the year and I look forward to seeing you on Scout Sunday. Dale Greene Troop 1
