Kevin Langston, Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) Deputy Commissioner for Tourism, visited Athens Feb. 1 - 2 on his statewide Road Trip  to promote Georgia's new "South with a Twist" Advertising-Marketing Campaign. While in Athens, Kevin met with local media as well as with local tourism and economic development representatives.

CVB Director Chuck Jones and Classic Center Executive Director Paul Cramer attended the Religious Conference Management Assn. conference January 24-26 in Kansas City, MO, to promote an expanded Classic Center.A postcard mailing was sent in advance to encourage attendees to visit the Athens booth.  A $100 gift card drawing further encouraged people to stop by the booth to learn more about Athens.  A total of 93 contacts were made, some of whom represent more than a single meeting.  Follow up with these contacts is proceeding.

  • The Fourth Annual Antebellum Trail Pilgrimage takes place April 19 - 22 in seven communities from Athens to Macon.   • The Athens-Area Watson-Brown Foundation Junior Board of Trustees is now accepting grant proposals for historic preservation projects. The deadline is February 29, 2012. All Athens non-profit preservation organizations are eligible to apply.  More information, including application packets, is available at www.trrcobbhouse.org.
