Advisory Board Shirtsleeves Session June 23
Make plans to attend the next CVB Advisory Board meeting June 23. This meeting will feature a shirtsleeves session: an informal, get-down-to-business work session to discuss relevant topics. The value of "Shirtsleeves" is the opportunity to bring your experiences and challenges to the table for unparalleled peer-to-peer problem-solving. The June 23 meeting will be hosted at the Georgia Museum of Art. We'll gather at 8:45 a.m. for networking and meet from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. An added bonus is a tour of the new GMOA exhibit space! Please RSVP to Venessa Banks, 706.357.4430.

Hospitality Newsmakers
The CVB must regrettably say farewell to Amy Clark, who is moving on to the Hotel Indigo Athens as Director of Sales. Amy has spearheaded many important initiatives during her five-year tenure and leaves a legacy of excellence that has elevated the CVB's stature locally, regionally, and statewide. While we will certainly miss having Amy on staff, we look forward to continuing to work closely with her as a local industry partner. Amy's new email as of June 27 will be amyclark@indigoathens.com.
The CVB honored its Athens Hosts volunteers at an annual banquet held at The Classic Center on May 18. Longtime Athens Host Bern Allard was recognized as the "Volunteer of the Year" in consideration of her hospitality to visitors and leadership. Bern's strong organizational skills and cheerful attitude are an asset to the CVB and a blessing to the visitors and convention attendees who encounter her. Thanks, Bern, for being such a great Ambassador for Athens!

- Annette Barfield was crowned May 21 as the first Ms. Senior Athens, representing healthy aging in Athens. Annette lives in Bogart, Ga. with her husband, Buddy Barfield. She has three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her hobbies are travel, adventure, ballroom dancing, gardening and sports. Look for her in her sash and crown around town, including some CVB-affiliated events! Chuck Jones served as one of the judges at the pageant, sponsored by the Athens Community Council on Aging.
- The Classic Center has been selected as one of Business Leader Magazine's Top 300 Small Businesses of the South for 2011. Congratulations to The Classic Center for garnering yet another prestigious award.
