Meeting GA CtrM&C Spotlight

In December, the CVB's Meetings & Conventions sales department booked 5,283 future room nights representing $3.7 million in economic impact.

Mark Adams now serves on the Georgia Society of Association Executives (GSAE) board and participated in their upcoming board meeting Jan.  12. He will also attend the Georgia Association of Meeting Planners International (GAMPI) annual meeting Feb. 24 - 26.

Mark will concentrate on Atlanta sales calls the next 60 days.  Other upcoming activities include hosting meeting planners during February marquee events such as the B-52's concert and Taste of Athens.

We anticipate that the CVB sales coordinator position should be filled by Feb. 1.

The CVB will present a Free Reunion Planning Workshop and mini-trade show on Saturday, February 12.  This event is a wonderful opportunity for reunion planners and Athens service providers to connect with one another.

Participants will get advice about planning a great reunion itinerary, group-friendly locations in Athens, and simple genealogy research techniques.  There is absolutely no charge for attendees; a small fee will be charged for exhibitors.   Advance reservations are a must.  Please help us spread the word to anyone who would like to know more about holding a reunion in Athens or reaching this important market.

Contact Amy Clark at 706.357.4433 or aclark@visitathensga.com for more information and to register as an attendee or exhibitor.

Georgia CapitolSpeak Out for Tourism

It is vital that our industry speak out and advocate for legislation that will preserve and strengthen our ability to generate more economic development through tourism.  Please consider joining the Athens CVB and other  industry representatives at Tourism Day at the Capitol on January 24-25.  Stay informed through the Tourism Development Alliance of Georgia and contact your elected officials with your opinions.

For more information on Tourism Day at the Capitol, contact Chuck Jones, 706.357.4430 or see the EventBrite page.

American Style Top 25
Deadline: March 5, 2011
Vote for Athens

It's that time again . . . . time to help get out the vote for Athens as one of America's Top 25 Arts Destinations.  Athens has been on this list from AmericanStyle magazine every year since 2002, but we need votes for 2011 to make this year's list.  As competition from other cities has increased, Athens has eased down the list a bit-- we need to regain our former Top 10 status!

So. . .

  • vote from every home and work computer you have access to
  • spread the word to your email lists and in your scheduled newsletters
  • post to Facebook and Twitter
  • place a link on your website
  • tell your friends, family, and colleagues to do likewise
