Annual "Holiday Spirits" Museum Mile Tour
of Athens House Museums
December 11, 2010

ATHENS, GA (November 8, 2010) - The Athens Historic House Museum Association has added yet another exciting twist to its annual Holiday Museum Mile Tour, scheduled for Saturday, December 11, 2010. In addition to theatrical performances at the Ware-Lyndon and T.R.R. Cobb Houses, a new historical vignette will be performed at the Taylor-Grady House.  This special holiday edition of Classic City Tours' Museum Mile Tour will include a guided tour of the Church-Waddel-Brumby House, complete with period music and seasonal refreshments. During this festive tour of Athens' four house museums, participants will experience an evening of theater, music and delicious fun, along with an opportunity to learn more about the history of each house from professional tour guides.

Rose of Athens will present three short museum theater performances on the tour.  Each vignette is set during the Christmas holidays and reflects 19th century holiday traditions.  The Ware-Lyndon House vignette, entitled "Christmas Spirits," is set in 1858 and the T.R.R. Cobb House vignette, "Simple Pleasures," is set in 1855. The Taylor-Grady vignette, which is currently in production, will be set in the 1880s.  Each vignette will delight audiences of all ages with different scenes of what life was like in these grand homes.  Playwright Shannon Rood and director Lisa Cesnik Ferguson construct the scenes in a true creative collaboration while maintaining the historical accuracy of Victorian era Athens.  Local talent has been tapped for the various roles, including community actors and Rose of Athens performers Danielle Bailey Miller and Jeremy Miller.

The Holiday Museum Mile Tours will depart from the Ware-Lyndon House on Saturday, December 11, at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.  Tickets are $25 per person for adults and $15 for children under the age of 10.  Transportation is included so space is limited.  Advance reservations are encouraged.
