Why: The Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) will host area hospitality industry representatives as well as local and state officials at the CVB Annual Meeting at The Morton Theatre on August 19.  The local tourism industry will gather to celebrate the importance of tourism and the contributions of the workforce.  Mayor Heidi Davison and Secretary of State Brian Kemp will speak on the importance of Athens' hospitality industry as well as its impact on area and statewide economies.  CVB Director Chuck Jones will review FY 10 and discuss the Bureau's plan of work for FY 11.  The Annual Hospitality Awards will also be presented, including the Classic Host Award, Louis Griffith Hospitality Leadership Award and the Hospitality H.E.R.O.E.S of the Year Award. 
 
Names of the winners are embargoed until 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010, but are available in advance upon request to meet editorial deadlines.  Pictures of the winners will be available immediately after the event.
