CONVENING IN ATHENS:
 NORTH GEORGIA METHODIST ANNUAL CONFERENCE
June 16 - 18, 2010
 
 

Athens, Georgia- June 2, 1010- The Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is pleased to welcome the North Georgia Methodist Annual Conference back to Athens June 16 - 18. 
 
Conference attendees will participate in a number of administrative and worship sessions, as well as fellowship during meals and receptions. In addition, attendees will participate in the 4th Annual Conference 5K Run/Walk.  Proceeds from the race will benefit The North Georgia Housing and Homeless Council, which helps Athens area and North Georgia churches and non-profit organizations minister to very poor and homeless persons.
 
A Red Cross blood drive will be held at The Classic Center on Wednesday, June 16, from noon to 5 p.m. and on Thursday, June 17, from noon - 5 p.m. Appointments may be made online at  http://www.redcrossblood.org  or call the Athens Red Cross office, 706-546-0681, ext 229.
 
During the 2010 Conference, Athens residents are invited to join Conference attendees at The Classic Center on Thursday, June 17, to package up to 200,000 family meals in one day for Stop Hunger Now.  Hands on Northeast Georgia is coordinating efforts to register 145 volunteers for this project that will feed 800,000 people.  Anyone age 12 and older may participate.  Volunteers are asked to sign up at  http://volunteer.united-e-way.org/hng/user/events/one.tcl?event_id=10396261508 or by clicking on the calendar at www.HandsonNortheastGeorgia.com.  For more information on this service project, please contact John Page at 706.543.1442 x203.
 
The Athens CVB estimates the economic impact of the North Georgia Methodist Conference to be $2,206,400  in direct spending, based a projected attendance of 2,800.  Athens will host this Conference again in 2011 and 2012.
