 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HOSA HOSTS ANNUAL STATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE AT
THE CLASSIC CENTER
MARCH 4 - 6

Athens, Georgia- February 16, 2010 - Georgia Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) will host the annual State Leadership Conference from Thursday, March 4 to Saturday, March 6 in Grand Hall at The Classic Center. About 2,050 people are expected to  travel to Athens for the event, making it the largest Georgia HOSA State Leadership Conference in history.

HOSA is a student-led organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Technology Education Division of the Association of Career and Technical Education. Georgia and the nation have an acute shortage of qualified workers for the health care industry, and HOSA addresses this shortage by providing students with the necessary training for this rapidly changing field.

This national student organization promotes interest and provides extensive career advancement opportunities for high school students interested in the health care industry. Through national leadership events and conferences, HOSA provides students with the skills necessary to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.

The Georgia HOSA State Leadership Conference involves a series of activities designed to strengthen leadership development skills, technical skills, basic skills and critical thinking skills.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in 55 competitions against their peers where they will be judged by a group of health care professionals in a particular field.

Out of the 55 events, competitions include Nursing Assisting, Biotechnology, Job Seeking Skills, Parliamentary Procedure and the list goes on.  A wholesome, competitive and democratic environment is designed. The top three students in each event competition will advance to the 33rd Annual HOSA National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla.

The HOSA State Leadership Conference is a unique opportunity to invest in education in a way that will have a vital economic impact to both Georgia and the local community. Through growth and support of health occupations,  major employers will be able to look within the state of Georgia for future workers, rather than having to recruit from out-of-state.  As the largest event in Georgia HOSA's history, this conference is expected to generate $3,130,000  in economic impact for local hotels, businesses and restaurants.

"I truly believe HOSA is changing the future of health care and making an impact on the world, particularly in this down economy. We are preparing students to be more competitive in the health care field and making that learning experience fun," said Allen O. Seigler, III, Executive Director of Georgia HOSA.

HOSA is currently seeking volunteers from the Athens area to judge the HOSA State Leadership Conference. For more information, please visit www.georgiahosa.org and complete the Judge Enrollment Form located on the State Leadership Conference page.
